I waited and did it manually. Software RAID, so I don't think the install script gives you the choice of using it. If it does I can give that a shot this time.

You can't get lvm during install, at least with v6.5. There is no option to choose the setup type of the SR.
Yes there is. We tell people to pick ext3 most of the time as the only thing you need to know during the setup. It's labeled "thin provisioned."
OHhHHHH... Again my Linux knowledge being what is isn't... I didn't know that.
So lvm can't thin provision?

Right, there is a known problem that makes XO slow because of what it uses under the hood. Use Veeam and it will be fast, I'm sure. It's not an XS speed issue. It's a XAPI call speed issue that is leveraged by XO.
It's not just XO. A lot of the people on the XS bug tracker aren't using XO. It's just a bug in exporting/importing.

Yes, XS has an import/export slowness. Not a backup one.

Which I think is ridiculous that it's not in 7. VHDX is over 4 years old. Even worse, QCOW2 is something like 10 (or more) years old, and has almost a 9 EB limit.

The limitation on the partitions sizes is because of the use of snapshot functionality. Imagine having a 9EB array and partition, and then trying to perform a snapshot on it.

VHDX has the same limit (or similar). No one would really have an image that size, but it would be compatible with every other system. And snapshots wouldn't take any longer. It creates a new file and writes to it and reads from the old one.
