SQL Management - Backup to new DB
-
Trying to restore a backup to a new database for comparison of data integration. I get to a certain point and the restore fails.
First, I created a NEW Database
Then, right clicked on it, going to TASKS then RESTORE.
From there, I have this:
Selecting the proper file to restore and destination.
Then going to FILES to change the destination file name.
When completing - it fails with file is in use. What am I missing?

Give us a screenshot of the Options tab?

Do not create a new database.
Also you do not need to touch the files section.
Just restore and change destination name on the first screen to a name not currently used.

Like this.

Okay - so my step 1 is incorrect. The action of restoring (to the new location) is, and how the DB creates....

I got it restored to a new db,.. but i did have to change the file name.
