Just finished a phone interview that seemed to go very well. Not the really nice role I applied for, but even closer to home and the ability to work remotely.

      Go for it dude

I put 7 down because 1) I was in front of my computer until 4:00 pm 2) i spent time taking care of my son as well which would equal 2 hours of the work day not worked.

            1. When did you start?

            Started at 8:00

            1. Not relevant. They can't stop paying you when someone talks to you at the water cooler or you get distracted by work conversations. Those things happen at the office or at home, they are part of your work day. When in the office you get loads and loads of time that you can't answer the phone, get to emails, etc. It's just normal day.

            That's fair.

So definitely an eight hour day. There has to be some kind of soft limit, like stepping away for half of the day and not being available is one thing, but being slightly unavailable for a short period of time is just normal work day stuff.

so walking away from work to help my son get lunch, get him drinks, etc through out the day would equate to the same time away from my desk at work or stuck in conversations with other people.

Yes exactly. If something had come up that was important during that time you probably would have delayed the other things. You were available to work and often do therefore you should claim that time.

odd.. I work from home ; Get more done, try new things get ahead - get told I can only put what I actually worked on my time card worked 7 hours yesterday on customer sites and new installs inbetween working on the server 2019 install and AD set up.

Then I work in the office, I sit around , play on ML, research AD. Reach out to customers, take calls, Work on new installs but the fact that I'm "in the office" I put 8 hour full day on my time card even though I Did more yesterday at home then ive done today thus far.

              Uhh..
              What The fuck ./

You could have just as easily done nothing for work all day at home assuming no calls came in... so Scott's claim that you send people home to work - meh. As many things - it's completely dependent upon the situation, and that can change daily.

Not odd, the entire industry has known for decades that you send people home to work, you bring them to the office for politics and to serve the egos of managers. Nearly everyone is way more productive at home. That's why nearly all good companies don't just allow it, they encourage it.

as that may be true: i was saying odd because of hours and how I have to put less hours on my time card because I worked from home.

Does this equate to less pay?

                    Am I missing something?

I think the issue is that he got docked an hour while working from home, but while in the office, he can dick around for that hour or more and still get paid for 8.

Please explain where he was docked?

If he was in the office - and arrived at 8 AM, took lunch noon to 1 PM, then left at 4 PM - that's only 7 hours of clock time.

Now - if the company was giving him the free extra hour of 4-5 PM because he was "in the office that day" that's a totally different thing.

Something doesn't make sense here, either you're salary or hourly, or salary with overtime benefits (like in NY with many IT professionals).

Your rate can never go lower than your base hourly rate, say $20/hour for "missing an hour of work"

my overall pay for the day changes.

Something doesn't make sense here, either you're salary or hourly, or salary with overtime benefits (like in NY with many IT professionals).

Your rate can never go lower than your base hourly rate, say $20/hour for "missing an hour of work"

This is not New Guys - I'm Hourly .
have been since I started and will not go Salary until they make me.
The old boss had in the past mess with peoples rates for certain issues. add that to the list of why i want out of here

odd.. I work from home ; Get more done

Does this equate to less pay?

not hourly, but over all, Yes.

My hourly rate doesnt' change from xx.xx, My pay for the day would be an hour short making for less hours of the day affecting overall pay not the rate at which I am paid.

Wait a min - if you're not hourly - WTFC? the number you give them only matters if you pay is tied to it....

                                          My hourly rate doesn't change.

Who ever said anything about the hourly rate? You pullin' a Dustin on me?
