Well the morning started out good but then went downhill. We have multiple campuses and and our link between campuses that was managed by Charter communications went down a week ago. We put in workarounds to keep everyone up and running. I don't know all the details about that though, supervisor did it. Today, however, a bunch of people started having dns because they could not get to our own website. Others were having dhcp issues I think after investigating because some travel and their laptops had pulled a ip address from one campus and it did not work at another campus. Other systems are now working either like our web based document solution. So been a hectic morning so far. Supervisor is looking at server settings to see what might be up. I don't have access to that. I used ping, ipconfig and nslookup to come to the conclusion that it was something central causing all the issues here and that was what I reported to my supervisor.
Is there anything from all that that I could have done better?
Besides googling for guides or books on dns and diagnosing problems which I'm going to do anyway, is there any resources you all would recommend to get a better grasp on my knowledge to help in diagnosing problems and learn more about how dns and dhcp work? -
Just got a call from (202) 996-6318. Damn, apparently an arrest warrant has been issued for me without any notification. Thank goodness I can call and pay them over the phone anonymously and the FBI will drop the warrant.

I used to cover overnight on calls for the bank all the time. Loved it, got to chill a lot and rarely got called.

Late 2nd, early 3rd shift was like this... Supporting Engineers travelling on the west coast, Japan, and plants running the maintenance shift.. Production weekends were a bit of gaming sometimes with very little to do... was 'free money'..
