The first batch of (my first) Ubiquiti gear arrived today: three EdgeSwitches ES-48-500W. I couldn't wait to get my dirty fingers on them and fired one up just for "science purposes". You know
Solid case, super-intuitive UI, and... I just like 'em. You get a lot of bang for the buck. Half an hour later I've replaced one of my old Cisco's. Will replace two more tomorrow and even plan to order more of them.
Next step: UNMS.
PS: I'm still busy with a lot of things. But we're doing fine for the most part. Kind of.
Good to see you again
Thanks Brendan. I'll try to increase my personal spam level during the next few weeks a bit.

On the train off to hospital for an EEG test thingy
Hopefully nothing serious?
Investigating small episodes of strange behaviour with memory loss.
Hopefully just down to stress and lack of sleep.
Uhm. A very close relative had something similar due to stress. Not funny at all. Get well soon.

Dang. Looks like I have to RMA one of the switches. Exactly same issue:
Yep, confirmed broken. Will RMA the switch tomorrow.
@JaredBusch : Had a little fight while replacing my core Cisco switch with the new UBNT ES. Will install UNMS until the end of the week.

How do people find this stuff so confusing?

I was told to go away and what not,... but been tracking a trend with one of the DB servers,.. The F: drive is currently 61GB of the 68GB drive. Just three files are taking up 99.8% of the drive.
Trying to recover space so it can run better.

specify - it's a DB server - .... for a client,... the 68GB F: drive is currently maxed out by three files (.ldf) are using 61GB of that disk.

They need a bigger space for that DB!

Yea,.. we know. It requires a new server build. But I have gotten the DB(s) down sized in the past, just not seemingly working today.

he clearly didn't know that Hyper-V was/is it's own thing. Sounds like he doesn't know what a hypervisor is (only half way through the post).

why do they need a new server build? just put more storage in the server and expand. Yeah I know it's more complex than that, but ya know where I'm going.

It's an OLD - dying box. There is no adding more storage. There is only (best practice) replace.

They do not want to replace anything just bandaid it all the time. But they pay their bills and pay way too much to keep having us bandaid.

If they only want bandaids, and they pay a lot, then they pay too much to NOT bandaid, I suppose.
