There is literally nothing about the Nintendo Switch that I find intriguing.

Not even how Nintendo can stay afloat after releasing crap product after crap product for years on end?

Nintendo is a front for a drug smuggling operation.

So they have plenty of money to waste....

Updating production server iDRAC firmware... again. Apparently you can't jump from 1.66.65 to 2.40.40.40 without an intermediate version. Hooray for tedium!

lol why did you allow yourself to be so far behind?

Kids love Nintendo and they own the rights to a lot of extremely popular franchises like Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong etc.

Kids do? Kids today? Maybe they do, but I would expect it to be your generation that likes it more than kids today.

I would tend to agree with that. There is some room for the IP for the younger generation but overall I doubt many are playing it.

You guys are actually right. Hm. I guess it's just the IP's they own then.

Just heard the tale of a friend's uncle (former nasa scientist) who, when applying to work at Northrop Grumman, encrypted his resume and nobody could open it.... He got the job.

That one sounds a little farfetched unless there was something else that got him the job in addition to the resume.

When he made a follow up call, he apparently got to talk to the right people. Plus, the contents of the resume, once decrypted by him, actually got him the job.

Some of the worst game IPs ever. Super Mario was a good franchise long, long ago. Zelda is the worst JRPG franchise ever - terrible stories, terrible gameplay, terrible graphics. DK.... LOL.

Right, so the encrypted bit was really just an aside. Like... I drove to my interview in an '86 Cavalier and I got the job. But there is no connection. Or mentioning what I ate for breakfast before getting the job. He likely would have gotten the same job submitting the resume normally.

I'm not personally a gigantic Zelda fan (I don't hate it either) but Zelda fans are some of the most die-hard fans alive.

Sure, but they are the same people who generally hate video games or are not really into it. It's the mainstream cosplay culture people. Zelda is the big marketing name that they know, so they wear clothes with Link on it and talk about it - because they aren't gamers. It's gaming for people who want to be hipsters and act like gamers but aren't sure what gamers actually play so mention what they've seen on an ad from Target.

I think the attention garnered by the un-decryptable document got the attention of the department head. Since the job involved security and cryptography, I'd say it was a good ploy.

Maybe, but it feels pretty fishy. That's so trivial to do. Making something encrypted that is useful (encrypts quickly, decryption is practical, etc.) is what is hard, not making something impossible to open.

Never heard of that. But games "like" Zelda, but are well made, are in no way indicative of the quality of Zelda itself. Unless it copies Zelda's totally awful game design and gameplay, it's not "basically like" Zelda at all. Are you just saying that it is an ARPG genre game?

Oh, I know the game. That's not a Zelda clone by any stretch at all. That's just a modern throwback ARPG. I think you are confusing the genre and the 8/16bit style with the Zelda games. Zelda games have been 3D for the majority of the series lifespans. Zelda in no way implies a certain style of graphics or age of game.

There ARE people who like Zelda, but they are definitely few and far between. The number of people who talk about it are much higher than those that play it. My wife claims she loves it, but will never play it because in reality she does not enjoy it.

Eh, Hyperlight Drifter is basically an updated Zelda more or less. That game was and is super popular.

I've played most of the incarnations. I like the older style more but you're saying that "Zelda is the worst JRPG franchise ever". That means all incarnations right?

Never heard of that. But games "like" Zelda, but are well made, are in no way indicative of the quality of Zelda itself. Unless it copies Zelda's totally awful game design and gameplay, it's not "basically like" Zelda at all. Are you just saying that it is an ARPG genre game?

All this talk about Zelda makes me want to go play it again... and the follow up ones as well. I can't say I've played anything after the first SNES one.

The first (and only) SNES title is, from what I can tell, the highlight of the series. The two that game before it, like most games of their era, were "novelty" games - fun because they were video games, not because they were good. The SNES let them make a decent game, but not on par with other JRPGs on the same system. But it was a big deal because it was Nintendo's own IP and part of an existing franchise.

The N64 took Zelda in new directions (blurry ones, mostly) and some people, like my wife, feel that this was the highlight of the series. I've tried these titles over and over and found them to be awful. Terrible graphics, terrible gameplay, worthless storytelling (if any.) I keep trying Zelda titles trying to find what people claim to like about them and keep finding them empty, half assed marketing fodder. Wind Waker is the best that I've played, and it's awful.
