What Are You Doing Right Now

The real question is when does this become "insane" so you just get a different food to get the child to eat.

I suppose that depends on the goal - and the reasons they aren't eating the food in front of them.

As another non-parent this has also baffled me. Make them food, serve them food. If they are old enough to use utensils, eating is up to them.

Our kid simply doesn't eat when he isn't hungry. But when it is bed time and he wants cookies, if he didn't eat his supper, he gets supper, or nothing.
They need to learn to eat (and do) things that they don't like -- within reason -- and by those in authority... The earlier they learn it, the less of a problem they will have as they get older.
I was never that big of a problem teenager for my parents, because I learned early on they meant what they said. I wasn't the perfect angel that everybody wants... but I knew where the line was at and how to tread if very carefully, lol.

LOL - have children and find out.
Easier said than done. I'd be willing to give it a try, but it's kinda hard as a single male
I am 40 years old and have NO desire to have my own children. I rent them from time to time from my wife's siblings, but uh, no thanks on having them myself.
A-friggin-men. I'm 41 with no kids, so I have free time and disposable income. It's a great combo when you want to travel or go out to eat somewhere nice (like nice places where kids do not belong... if you are paying $20-30 plus for an entree, leave your progeny with a sitter).

Taking a look at the network monitor before heading out to lunch.
-
@travisdh1 you'll have more fun as a single male.... trust me. I don't mean avoid dating, just don't let them tie you down.
-
@RojoLoco 37, and no kids. I thought I was the only one. LOL
-
The kids are all playing Minecraft Pocket Edition with each other but the world is so big they have no idea how to find each other.
-
I am trying to recuperate from a long day Saturday of cutting down, and hauling trees back home to be turned into firewood... And Chasing the kid all over central Georgia yesterday (found a bouncy house place called Monkey Joe's -- kid had a ton of fun) followed by Pizza for supper.
Today is a holiday in the US for schools and such so now I'm working on making firewood... right after lunch, lol.
-
I wish it were a holiday for me. I always seem to end up working for places that do 7 days a year.

I'm on call if something completely and totally catastrophic happens.. but I am so far down that totem pole that I don't have to worry about it too much.
-
@dafyre I am the only IT guy for the company so I am on call 24/7/365.
-
@wrx7m I am also the only IT guy here, but I'm not on call after hours.... unless it is something catastrophic... or trivial. The bosses only call me after hours maybe 2-3 times a month, so I'm fine with that. I did have to stay 4+ hours extra one friday when the server room a/c crapped out. That was probably the most unplanned after hours event I've had to deal with here.

@RojoLoco Yeah, I have PRTG to tell me when I need to do something. Usually, people don't bother me after hours. It is the equipment that beckons.
I used to get calls from remote users on the weekends for expiring passwords and that was annoying so I setup a password notification e-mail that starts 14 days prior to their expiration. And I have e-mail templates that I send out explaining how to create strong passwords that you can remember and how to change your password and update the cached credentials on the domain-joined laptop. If someone calls me now, they will get a "You'll have to wait til Monday". Fortunately, it hasn't come to that but I still have to force some people to change them on the day of or on the Friday prior to it expiring. They might as well be my kids.

Family dinner time.

@RojoLoco Also, I had my AC go out in the server room at a place I worked at about 10 years ago when I was only helpdesk. No one knew anything was wrong until the next day when nothing worked. Open the server room door and it was like 105 in there. JBODs and a tape library and local storage cooked to death. $50K and a few weeks later and we got most of it back after sending the drives to a clean room recovery facility. After that we installed climate monitoring and alerting from IT Watchdogs. I learned my lesson from that.
When I started at my current place (5 years ago), the server room had a portable AC and an in-wall unit neither of which was doing anything but blowing the hot air around the room. Install a ductless split system and IT watchdogs again. I have had two AC failures and was able to prevent a meltdown each time. Power off everything remotely and go open the room to cool it down. Leave room open with gigantic fan blowing exhaust out the door and power things back on. We are now on the second ductless split system.

AC failure is one of my biggest fears. Right up there with pipes bursting.
