Let me get this helmet on, and a fire suit... Ok..
I have been really happy with my Macbook Pro...
Go ahead, let me have it.
I don't have a problem with the per se. other than them calling it a Macbook Pro when there is no longer anything professional about them. Apple has ditched the creative professional world thinking they could make more if they consumerized it. Yet, they have left the word "pro" on all the stuff they consumerized. a lot of people have been switching to windows from mac in the professional world.
The Kept Macbook "Pro" - Not a thing is any longer upgradable
Mac "Pro" again just the ram is upgradable. No PCIe slots, external bays cost $3,000+ for cards.
Final Cut "Pro" a consumerized more advanced iMovie, more akin to Adobe's "Elements" type software.Sad thing is the pro market used to be their primary user base.

Again, not a programmer but...
What's wrong with using those resources remotely so that the laptop becomes just an interface to do the work? A more reliable desktop/server with far better performance so that programming goes quicker surely is the way to go?
Licensing in some cases.
Also you don't have internet connections everywhere. -

If you like Acer, I've got an Acer V3 17.3" Laptop. (16g RAM, Nvidia umm... something or another w/4GB RAM). It works really nicely or playing games. Skyrim runs on Max settings without batting an eye.
I'm not sure about the CUDA stuff, but it does really nicely when ripping my DVDs to MP4 or ISO. It was about $1,300 with a square trade warranty and all.
I actually looked that those, but they seem hard to come buy. there were a couple on ebay, and one was from a guy with zero feeback so I passed. Looks nice for the price though.

See you already bought one, but maybe this is one to stash for next time.
Its over $3,000 for the same configuration (with smaller data drive as well). Never heard of them either so that would scare me away.

@thecreativeone91 It's been a good laptop so far. No issues with it during my gaming sessions... Right now, I'm playing Older titles, such as ME2 and Vanilla WoW. But when I do video work on it, it rocks!

@thecreativeone91 So because something is not upgradeable it is not professional? I use my Macbook as a development system with multiple running VM's. I need the extra hardware and performance that "Guy McDudebro" would not. That is why I carry a Macbook Pro VS a standard Macbook. The entire point of the Mac Platform is to allow you to be more creative because hardware issues are minimized because of standardization and the removal of low end hardware. There is no cheap underperforming barely have enough specs to survive systems that I have to work around. I know that if I write something native, and it preforms on a spec device, it will preform on all devices in service. Lastly, yeah, Final Cut did go to crap, but I wasn't a fan before it did either.

How is a professional laptop, that only have 4GB of ram professional?
And yes, the Mac Pro is not a professional workstation anymore, it's a Mac Mini with better specs. Thunderbolt for everything. They essentially dropped support for films shot on the RED Cameras (and many other cameras) as you can no longer put the rendering engine in your computer.

- The one I am using to type this has 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- You are trying to make an edge case a primary case.
- I've gave my opinion, and I will not argue further. You are entitled to your opinion as well.

How is than an Edge case? The video production world is what allowed Apple to become what it was, RED and Arri are the two most popular cameras, and you use these engines when editing. Apple has basically said, even with the development is Yosemite that they are making it more consumerized. They'd rather make more sales, lower priced sales. , than good higher prices sales.
-
I have 16gb ram in one and 8gb in the other.
-
The Macbook Pro's come is as low as 4GB and max at 16GB, They also only use Intel HD 5000/6000 graphics. Neither of which are professional. There nothing that really makes them Professional over a standard windows laptop, other than the name, and maybe some windows laptops won't have an SSD.
I used to only use Mabook Pros and had Mac Pro's but apple has changed their product and intended user base a lot.

Very much seems so. Apple wants everyone to want one and be what the cool kids have, yet even though they can, they don't want quite everyone to be able to afford it. as it would loose its status.

Exactly - it will never be attainable by all, or else it's pointless - it's like BMW and Mercedes today. They are probably a bit better in general than say a Ford or Chevy, but the baseline models are really nothing special, but have a special price tag just for the gotta have it folks.

Actually those high price tags are only for the US. In the rest of the world they are pretty affordable. Although entry level Fords are only $7K in Europe too.

Did you say $7K for a Ford (what vehicle) in Europe? How much is something like a Taurus over there?

Don't know. It is $7K for a Fiesta. Not a good car, but far less than you pay for the same thing in the US.

Where you getting your prices?
http://www.ford.co.uk/ConfigureyourCar/Fiesta/Studio
http://www.nl.ford.be/BuildandPrice/Ford-Fiesta/Ambiente£10,145 and €13,500 respectively. In USD, that would be $16,000 and $15,000. Brand new in US is MSRP of $13,965
http://www.ford.com/cars/fiesta/?gnav=header-cars
This is mostly due to labor costs, most Fiestas in the UK are made in Britain while US-spec ones are hecho en Mexico.
On the used market? Hell yeah, $7KUSD would be possible. That's one of the top selling cars, hence dropping the price down.
As for MB/BMW prices, also realize that there is equipment and specs that Euro ones get that US ones never do. For example, cloth seats in a E350, or the A-class, or the 1-class with stripped out options. Which makes the cars more approachable for the general population, but for the most part equal for equal is about the same price here or there. You don't get a E63 for a lot less in Germany than in the US.

Got the laptop in from amazon today. Dang is 17.3" Huge!!! I've had a lot of 15.4", 16" and 17" laptops but the 17.3" just makes it seem like siting at a desktop.
