Interesting day today
-
I'm finding it really bizarre the amount of "PC" issues going on there. Where did it all come from? My only guess is that there was some pandering to the "any complaints" mentality and once people realized that any complaint, no matter how unfounded, was a useful weapon they just started using it.

I'm coining a new hashtag
#BanBeingOffended
-
I think the overly PCness going on is going to bite them in the butt and slow things down on the community to a all newbies only if it keeps up.

Oh no, you said "butt", I'm offended!

i was watching that thread closely to see what happened, Interestingly enough it played out just like i thought. Someone took something out of context and was offended, complained like they do to their parents when a kid hurt them and it went from there. Granted I was that person once upon a time where I called out a post for using similar language. I then took a step back and asked myself why was i so offended over something that was said. I came to realize that it's the internet and well if it is not a personal attack and not truly offensive, why should i react? Bill doesn't this sound familiar to the conversation we had about the legit or be concerned post?
-
Yeah that post just went crazy.
-
The thing about that thread is I don't blame the poster. I disagree with his whining, but the blame lies with those that rewarded the behavior. I'm sure I know I've reported or complained about things others didn't agree with, and I certainly didn't get my way. And that's the way it should be. Except for their handling of the contests page. It drives me f'ing bonkers.
-
What are you all talking about?
-
@RobQ i agree the poster was just making a joke (however poor that joke was, lol) and had no intention of creating flamewar that broke out due to other posters. The thing is the OP wasn't the one that was wining about it, he got dragged into it because someone else took offense.
-
@david.wiese Sorry I was overly vague. I Don't blame Jaguar (Poster of meme) or even Chad (Complainer). Chad is who I was referring to. I disagree with the way he handled it, but the CM's just validated that behavior. There are always going to be people with twisted panties. If the CM's get in the panty untwisting business, it's going to be tough going for them. Vagueness, and complacency by the CM team is a big part of what led Chad to even post the complaint. When you report a post, it just says, "We'll get back soon". I can understand that Chad may have thought he was being ignored because he reported a Mod.

Once questionable mods happen and the moderators don't have good justification for their actions things tend to spiral out of control.
-
@RobQ
that makes more sense. -
@Carnival-Boy
a thread on a different site, that went sideways and very quick might i add. -
I think it's the mod structure. Too many cooks with no unified oversight. And top down management is failing when the bottom rungs can't manage themselves. They've lost their skill base as well as their historical perspective.
-
@scottalanmiller what do you mean when you say they have lost their skill base?
-
Probably means that a certain someone has left the building.

Try to be vague, but get "Huh?" instead.
Let's put it this way, it was all about butthurt.
I'm having a day fulla butt-hurt today, also - maybe it's part of the lunar cycle or something.
A beer is warranted once my day is over. -

@PSX_Defector 5mill objects? What the hell was that? It sounds like fun in itself.
A certain movie website's back end image server. 5mil might be a bit of an understatement. Customer has two hosts, both of them got borked on it's settings at the same folder level. My colleague who was working on it yesterday at this time did it via the GUI and was still at work until 6:00PM. I been doing it piecemeal via the command line, which seems to be moving very fast. I've got permissions on folders laid out, just applying it to the individual objects.
I'm just watching the number fly by.
I see, that sounds like a boat load of fun. Using any PowerShell or is this *nix kind of stuff?

Wish it was Unix. chmod -r 777 and we are good to go. Nope, good old Windows 2003 and the command takeown.
