Windows Terminal

I figure I'm not the only one that haven't noticed the existence of Microsoft's Windows Terminal.
No, it has nothing to do with the terminal services or hyperterminal (blast from the past).
It's a tabbed terminal application for powershell, command, ssh, etc.
Multipane too I think - haven't figured it out yet. -
@pete-s yeah it's been a thing now for like 2 years now. Many have been using it and following it.

Well you’re not the only ones I don’t feel terribly bad.

I never need more than a right click on the start button and then choosing Powershell.
I guess if I actually ran native windows all the time I would have found this useful.
I recall this being announce not long after the WSL was standardized. Maybe same time?

I remember it was something that had to be installed, rather than being a part of the default Windows install. Is that still true?

Yes, you install it from
https://aka.ms/terminal
or
https://github.com/microsoft/terminalIt's possible to integrate it into the widows installation image with DISM.

It's true for Win10. I've been installing it from the built-in MS Store without any issue.
Simply search for
terminal
then click to install one ofWindows Terminal
orWindows Terminal Preview

It's exactly what I thought. With a name like that, what else could it have been?

Yeah, your right - especially if you compare to something like gnome terminal.
But Microsoft have been pretty consistent through the years about using "console" and not "terminal" for this kind of application.

True. They do always use some weird terminology that is very specifically something else but "not when Microsoft says it."
