Should I help him out or let him figure it out?...

      Give a man a fish . . . .

fair enough, he said he will just run with windows home for a while and see if he needs the windows 10 pro ..

Do you guys operate in an AD environment? If so, to join that doesn't it require at least Pro to be able to bind.

no, we are not running AD

Not much need for Pro then.

      personal preference?

As it has no benefits, it seems, this is a personal preference that you need to REALLY think about. This can be reworded "I have a personal preference to donate money to Microsoft and software to my company."

Literally, that's what that means. Calling something "personal preference" that is obviously crazy is a horrible mental response to have. Yes, it is your money to throw away. But we are literally talking about throwing away money for zero reason. Just so that something you don't own has the letters "Pro" instead of "Home".

Really stop and think about that. People who make $500K a year aren't rich enough for money to be so unimportant as for that to make any sense.

If this was not a work provided device, then you’re personal preference is just that your personal preference and is perfectly acceptable. I would still question the need, but it’s not like giving it to your company.

Not to mention what we know of your company being not a great place to begin with.

Definitely an awful job. But I did that for Dell and moved on quickly.

fair enough, he said he will just run with windows home for a while and see if he needs the windows 10 pro ..

Toshiba sent me a message asking me to apply to their company 20 minutes ago.

Definitely an awful job. But I did that for Dell and moved on quickly.

how much of that is IT work versus bench?

all bench work from what I can tell.

Makes me wonder if it's really a direction you want to go?

              not sure.

Is so confusing configuring softwared raid + lvm during a debian installation.
Its a lot easier doing that on Fedora/CentOS.

Base Debian or some variant like Ubuntu?

Debian. I haven’t even tried Ubuntu especially with there new installer.

He's very bench heavy today, too. But adding enterprise experience would increase his overall exposure.

Toshiba sent me a message asking me to apply to their company 20 minutes ago.

Definitely an awful job. But I did that for Dell and moved on quickly.

how much of that is IT work versus bench?

He's very bench heavy today, too. But adding enterprise experience would increase his overall exposure.

True - that was the only real value I saw in that job.

he could end up with less stress as well because of the larger company. But the likely regular travel could suck!

OMG HPE just won't stop calling. We are so inundated with calls because they were at Spiceworld. Every day we get one or two. It just never ends.
