Office 365: Encrypted Emails
-
Any suggestions or feed back on sending encrypted emails via Office 365?

There is nothing built in.
-
There are really two choices:
- Use an Outlook Plugin to do this (a la GPG, PGP, etc.)
- Use a third party service that doesn't actually send email but uses something secure
-
AppRiver is a good service provider for encrypted email services.

@g.jacobse Are you wanting to pre-encrypt the email? if so, then what @scottalanmiller said is correct.
If you are wanting to know if TLS is used, that answer is that it is on opportunistically for all Office 365 email that is sent or received.
There is likely a method to require TLS on a per domain level, as that was a standard Exchange function, but I have no idea where in the Office 365 portal to find the option.

We are governed my HIPPA and etc. so need to encrypt the actual email.

I use SendInc for Outlook 2013 on Office 365.

Your options are then to use encrypted email (GPG, PGP) where you pre-share keys with intended recipients. This breaks the model of email and you can no longer send to ad hoc third parties. You must arrange a key exchange, outside of email, ahead of talking to any new email address.
Or you have to abandon email completely and use a third party service that interacts with email (like AppRiver, the files are actually handled through a web application, not email) because email itself can't be encrypted while maintaining its traditional infrastructure.

If you weren't on O365 you could use Zix.. but who knows.. maybe Zix has a plug in for that too.
Man - I just wish traditional old SMTP email would just die - it needs a complete, secure, rewrite.

I'm working my way through this document currently.
