LXD is just a really nice interface for LXC.

Huh? LXD still uses LXC under the hood...

Throws a Windows 8 box at @aaronstuder, that for your silly "desktop acting like a tablet" gui!

Yeah, I never understood the appeal of having a desktop interface that could also run on a tablet or phone. Made the large monitor feel so dis-used.

I use RHEL and CentOS for production stuff at work since we have support, but I have no problem with Unbuntu for my personal stuff

It has been a while since I have deployed Ubuntu Server with the exception of my Unifi Controller. I honestly did not try it on Cent or Fedora. I can't say that I ever had any real issues with Ubuntu. Years ago, it seemed very popular and that is most likely why I started using it.

It was (and probably still is) a hugely popular desktop OS for those that want to run desktop Linux.

But I was always a RHEL and CentOS OS user for my servers.

I started my Linux career with Mandriva but soon moved to Debian and Ubuntu. I am still a fan of Debian instead of ubuntu but the setup of Selinux with Fedora, CentOS and others which Ubuntu still has which is going to move me there soon.

@dbeato You arent a fan of apparmor? Neither am I. At least selinux can be installed on deb/ubu rather easily.

I am not a fan of apparmor for sure.

I knew about selinux way before I knew about apparmor.

What's the reason for Ubuntu not having firewall enabled by default these days?

Simplicity for the user base. . .

UFW is enabled on Ubuntu by default.

It is supposed to be incoming deny and outgoing allow.

Don't like the desktop really, but I actually quite like the server edition.

Really like what I'm reading here and the other threads/community...but I'm still a linux newbie (for several years)..I do not claim to know it all or anything to be advanced, but has stuck with what we have here (Ubuntu server) which I know enough on how to manage.

On the desktop side, I've had it in my personal laptop which is now decommissioned due to hardware failure. I actually liked the desktop (have not tried other ones though...aside from Windows 🤣 ).

My default is normally CentOS no real reason apart from it's what I've always used. But as I'm a newbie as such with Linux if the install guide shows Ubuntu then I'll use that.

I'm with you here. While I know Ubuntu isn't the favoured distro here, there is SO much documentation out there that it was the easiest for me to begin learning Linux and it's been a huge help getting me out of the Windows comfort zone. I've just now started down the path of other distros.

Although it needs way more documnetation that some others 😉

One of the reasons that I dislike Ubuntu is that their own docs weren't correct and information was not reliable.
