Sodium Update
-
So over here at Quixotic we've been working at a feverish pace to try to get the MVP of Sodium up and running. For those who don't know Sodium is a free RMM software with the goal of becoming so much more than that. We made a huge step forward tonight (this morning?) having our production server go live and confirming that the backend is (to this point) working as intended! The front end is working as well but we have some major plans in regards to redesigning it to better suit everyone's needs. While this is very early on in the development process I'm really pleased with how this weekend went and it's not close to over yet. We've done some testing including putting together an environment of about 8 machines without any issues and are at this pointing looking for others who would enjoy testing some EXTREMELY early stage software with the goal of giving us feedback and finding ways to help us make it suit what everyone is looking for. Obviously as was stated this is a very early stage and the interface is still very rough so keep that in mind.

I've gotten loads of Windows 10, Server 2016 and Server 2012 R2 installs done.

Is there a webside? My google-fu is coming back with Chemistry references ...
Or - are we saying Sodium as in SALT?

@gjacobse
Only the Windows installer is working, I think. Don't try it with Linux.https://sodium.waxquixotic.com
It requires a "company" to which a machine will be assigned. So for person testing, just make a "company" of your own name or family name or something that makes sense for personal use. Right now you'll need to use Chrome, FF and Edge aren't working reliably yet. One thing at a time. We are dropping new updates a few times a day, so things are changing constantly. But for recent Windows versions, installs are working and data collection is working. Once you download the installer, you can install on unlimited Windows boxes and they will all show up under your personal account.

Should I put this on a small handful of PCs in my office, or rather only home machines?

NTG has it on a number of machines already. Only so many, as it is Windows only and we are light on Windows. Once it is ready for Linux, we will see a lot more.

Oh definitely go ahead for office machines. Definitely. Just be aware this is pre-beta, very early testing. We are pretty confident that this is safe and the big "fear" is that it just won't work or won't look nice or doesn't do as many things as you want. The local agent components are very heavily tested and should be totally safe on office machines, even at this stage. So definitely go ahead. For your office, you'll want to create a single company when you make your account. Either the company that you work for or you as an MSP if you are an MSP user, for example. Sodium is free for personal OR business use. But as it works right now, you'll need independent accounts (which is fine, just make two accounts) to keep your personal machines separate from your office ones.
The assumption with how the system works is that we expect that you'll use it at home as well as work, just because... why not? That way you see it in use in more environments and get more out of it. But, of course, many people will only do one or the other.

Now that my daughter's gaming machine is being scanned, it's neat to see it picking up the games on there.

When I click the link sent to my email to create a password (which opens in Chrome) I see a mini windows open for a moment to type in the password I want to use, but then it disappears before I can set one. Then I am presented with the logon page.

I have the same issue.

Working in Firefox though.
-
Having a hard time getting passed creating a company abbreviation and username. If one fail, the other will failed after changing either one.
-
Webroot is listing your site as suspicious. I wonder if this is causing my issue in FF.
-
@dbeato I spoke to soon... is not working there either...
-
I was able to get the password request stay in MS Edge. I put in a password, then tried to log in, but it tells me my creds are incorrect.
-
The root website is also just a plain Wordpress site.

Okay everyone, sorry I stepped away for a second to get some food really quickly. To answer some questions. Going to go through the list here:
@Dashrender No we aren't using wordpress in the slightest, front end is like stated previously just very rough at the moment.
@Dashrender, @dbeato, Looking into the disappearing password set here in a minute. We haven't seen that before so I'll let you guys know as soon as I figure out what is going on.

@Dashrender Looks like you just went to waxquixotic.com dashrender which isn't the entry point. sodium.waxquixotic.com is. http://sodium.waxquixotic.com/ will point you in the right direction.

Correct - I went there to see if it would take me someplace that I could reset my password.
There doesn't appear to be any reset buttons anywhere. -
@Dashrender @dbeato and @black3dynamite Thanks for all the input! 2 bugs were found and corrected.
-
@black3dynamite I'm going to go ahead and remove the massive amounts of companies that were created due to this issue so that you can start fresh.
-
the login issue where it was jumping away from the password entry input was a routing issue that has been fixed.
We're going to be rolling out a release here in a little bit to resolve these issues. I'll make a post as soon as the deployment has finished. Thanks again everybody.
