Law department got new carpeting done Friday. No one told us. We get a call this morning first thing that nothing is working (still no mention of what took place). I get up there and everything is unhooked. All of the cabling is a gigantic knot that they taped to the desks with duct tape. They pulled an access point out of the wall and broke a ton of cables by crushing them with furniture.
What a day and it's only 10:00 AM.

Sounds like somebody stepped out of scope of a project or there was a failure of communication somewhere.

The carpet layers broke the law. Ha ha.

Well, it actually sounds like vandalism.
-
But the law department probably wouldn't recognize vandalism if they walked it and tore up their own office.

Actually, they were hired to do a job. This sounds more like incompetence.

Three people couldn't make it. I knew that and the plan was going to be to discuss what the rest of use needed to discuss and relay to those three. Of the people that were going to make it, only two (including myself) were here; thus, rescheduling will happen.

LOL - we have board meetings like that. They are given the agenda - if they don't attend, they are simply left out of any votes that happen that day.

- Welcome to small offices :P. It's not a problem, and frankly, I'd rather find a time for all 7 of us to meet together.

Hiring someone to do one job who then vandalises a place while there doesn't change the vandalism.
-
Presumably they weren't hired to "trash the office."

I agree. They weren't there to trash the office, they were there to lay new carpet. However, either whoever hired them failed to communicate it to others that needed to know or the carpet layers were incompetent on taking care of the clients equipment and needs. Its not like they went in there and spray painted the walls or the new carpet or something.

I need a new quote: "Never attribute to stupidity what can be attributed to clever marketing."
Hmmm...

Still stuck in jury duty... Still haven't even started deliberation yet. Hell, they haven't even let us get lunch yet today.
When I last went to jury duty, they gave us like 2 hours to have lunch in a town full of brewpubs. Was nice.

That's exactly what it is like.

Kids are doing school. I'm working on moving into my "new" office. I've had a make-shift office in the dining room, but the kids do school in there. Liesl's old bedroom is empty (completely) and cleaned. So I'm moving into there now.

My kids just finished their Japanese studies and cleaning their rooms. American school starts next week.
I just dealt with an estimator checking the storm damage on the house. Now I need to file a claim with my insurance company.

I initially had trouble getting renter's insurance... seems like they only want to cover people who they can be sure will never need it.... Not going to mention any names... cough cough Nationwide.
