UPS = Pay-Per-Use 3D Printing?
-
Yeah the ability to locally pickup a replacement part that's 3d printer would be pretty cool.
A simple example would be a battery door on a remote control. You break it, no problem, you log into their website, order a replacement. the plans are sent to the local 3d printer, you pay, then drive to pick it up.
awesome!

@Dashrender I agree! I also think that the costs associated would be mutually beneficial for the OEM and customer. No warehousing and logistics costs for end of life products, and they can keep their drawings in-house if they can remotely send the drawings to the printer.

I wonder how long before someone makes a DRM based home use 3D printer that can be used for small items. You pay for a license to a model to print and it can print X number of them before the license expires.

I'm very happy that you mentioned that, this is something with DRM that I could get behind!

hmm.. How long before the people who don't care start torrenting products?

And then get weird malware that takes over your printer.

...and prints phallic objects.
@thecreativeone91 I was thinking about some kind of SSL or encrypted system similar to encrypted printing; where all you can see is the end product. I assume that anyone with a 3D scanner could just scan the original piece to begin with.
I was going to promote an idea but it already exists. I might build a printer soon.
