Looking for CRM for New Company

Helping a new company find the right CRM tool for them. Right now I think that the short list is SuiteCRM (a fork of SugarCRM) and Zurmo, because MQ has liked it in the past and we have some experience with it as I've been supporting that for a couple of years. I've supported SugarCRM for many years as well, maybe eight to ten years, in fact. vTiger is known and we aren't too keen on that one, it's fine but doesn't look as good. I looked at a few and it's very hard to know which are really worth evaluating. Does anyone have any input?

We looked at Zurmo. @Danielle-Ralston even gave me a demo. Right before I was ready to switch over from Dynamics to Zurmo, I did one more check and realized that the project is pretty much dead. The support forums are a wasteland and I didn't feel comfortable switching. Then I stumbled upon SuiteCRM. I fully switched us to SuiteCRM and have been using it for about 2 months now. We love it. We host it ourselves, and it takes almost no resources. We use only about 10 percent of it's feature set at the moment.
Writing a how to guide for SuiteCRM installation for ML is on my to-do list.

Nice, yes I forgot that about Zurmo. It did look dead when I last looked, good reminder. And good to hear that SuiteCRM is working out well. I'm leaning to that. They have releases even this week and a beta getting ready to release as well.

@scottalanmiller Yes, the new release will fix a lot of bugs. But with that said, we don't really encounter the bugs that are being fixed. It is a solid product, with a good community backing it. It is also VERY customizable. We've already ripped apart some areas and customized it exactly how we want it.
SO MUCH BETTER than Dynamics.

Not to mention, the interface is polished and looks great IMO. Our one developer loves it because he can customize it so much and get directly into the DB if necessary.

Wait you dont enjoy spending hours upon hours trying to do simple tasks in Dynamics? You dont enjoy setting up simple workflows in 20 hours? Dont like ie only and ActiveX requirements?

You have no idea how many projects I want to do with my home lab! It keeps growing and growing.

@fuznutz04 Have you added any extensions to your install? Anything you find so useful you couldn't imagine not having it?

Do any of you bother with support contracts for SuiteCRM?

Also (naive question incoming) what spec machine would you run it on? Can they grow to a fair size?

Zurmo is only good cause it is super simple. But the gameification of it is annoying. And again it is super simple.

1 vCPU / 768MB is normally more than enough.

I have ours with 1vcpu and 1024mb ram. If multiple people are on it, it uses a good portion of that, but I never notice a slowdown at all. Disk usage is next to nothing, as we don't really store anything other than text and some pdfs on it.

Not really. We just use it right now vanilla. We use it for tracking prospects, clients, bids, etc. right now we use it purely as a sales tool, but it is so much more than that, and we are looking to expand our use of it. We use such a small piece of it. There is also a nice outlook adding which you can pay for, which supports the project.

We don't.
We haven't with any CRMs in the past.
