Nintendo Abandons the NES Classic, So Build a Better One Yourself
-
Nintendo has decided to pull its popular NES Classic despite consumer demand, so consider a do it yourself it with a Raspberry Pi 3 to build a Retro Pi with far more games and options than the NES Classic. A great, and not complicated, home RP3 project to do on a weekend and a lot more fun than a thermostat when you are all done.

Been thinking of doing this along with a few wireless controllers

We are going to be back in our US home for a while soon and might do something like this to get the kids some simple exposure to some classic gaming.

I already did this a couple months ago. It's a fun project. Getting all of the ROMs is a bit problematic.

My Raspberry Pi 3 RetroPie kit will be at my doorstep tomorrow.

For the price... that really isn't that bad.

Much more flexible and powerful than a NES Classic as well. The NES Classic has it's place though...

I have both. RPi is just horrible, lagging makes playing impossible. And once you add all components, you're probably paying more that Classic. If you can find one of course...
-
Marcinozga, do the hardware spec's of your RPi match up with the RPi RetroPie Kit I linked earlier? Are you running RetroPie? This is the first I've ever heard of anyone complaining about lagging playing NES on a RPi. I've never run NES on a RPi, so I don't have any input. I'll find out when my RPi kit arrives. What I also wanted to mention is that you run RetroPie and Emulationstation to not only play NES, but also Atari, Genesis, SuperNES, Gameboy, etc... Not to mention playing any ROM where the NES classic would only play a specific set of games.

I just wanted to update this thread that I've got my LoveRPi RetroPie Emulation Station Mini Game PC all setup and it's running beautifully. No lag as the marcinoza mentioned his was doing. I'm loving the the setup and playing the old NES games. If you want to set up your LoveRPi with almost any retro game you could ever think of, follow the instructions from this YouTuber. I did everything step by step and everything works great. Enjoy!
