I can't see how that is at all logical. How did it come across to him that any of it made any sense at all?
I think "Because Dell said so."
Oh well in that case, Dell also told me to cut off my left foot, because left feet stink more than right feet. Better do as they tell me...
You have more than one left foot and right foot?
You'd think with the arguments some of these sales guys make...

Built an IPOD because he sales guy told him too. Then was told to split his RAID array in two, buy Starwind and use Starwind to combine the two RAID arrays (on the same controller) back again.

Whoo nice and shiny Fujitsu IPOD being built.
Not only did they order an IPOD, they don't have anyone to set it up or maintain it.

And uninformed management wants to be IT. great, I'm stepping out of the conversation.

Lots of reasons not to go virtual, none are real of course. And it's pretty clear that their admin and decision maker aren't even sure what virtualization is!
-
And another... went inverted pyramid and their performance can't handle a PBX!

So glad that I didn't have to say it.

I don't mean to be a dick... but he's been "studying" virtualization for 5 years! He never once came across KVM, Xen, Hyper-V, or Esxi Free? That doesn't compute.

Yeah, something is seriously wrong.

Was he studying the VMWare sales materials?

That would be my guess? But even the VMWare sales material has references to Hyper-V and Xen.

Studying might have meant "asking a salesman from time to time".

It looks like a lot of that topic was gutted by some moderator.

Oh really? Nothing of mine, I didn't get any notifications.

@scottalanmiller the topic only has a handful of replies now. Based on this conversation I assume it was several pages.
