MineCraft PE Updates to 1.0 Release
-
Our first device (an iPad) just updated. Finally MineCraft PE has been moved to full release.

So much effort for Minecraft PE (compared to the desktop versions of Minecraft). What is different between them?

One can be used on iPads and mobile devices.... the other is Desktop (Linux/Windows/Mac) only.

For some reason they went for different code bases. Java for real MineCraft, and something else for MineCraft PE. PE is what runs from the Windows 10 store. It's crazy. They have at least four different products that don't work together.

What about the PE servers? Have you found one that works nicely -- or well enough ?

Not yet. Found one that almost worked but was about four versions old so it would fire up, throw errors and poop out on you. Haven't found one that really works yet and any that did work would be broken now.

That is the problem with emulators and modern mobile apps. In the PC world, software updates less often or is easy to "freeze" your installed copy to a certain version. So emulator projects simply say install XXX version N and you can connect to these emulator servers.
With mobile apps the ability to control the installed version is nearly impossible (not impossible).

@JaredBusch Yeah, it's not just a problem with the servers, my kids tablets don't work properly either. They cry every time one of them gets an update because it means the tablets don't work with each other any longer, either. Of course the normally do eventually. But we have some tablets that haven't updated in nine months, others update almost instantly. The iPads we can force updates. Kindle Fire, you cannot. So those get stuck with all random versions and stop updating. It's awful.
