Last night I attempted to create a Plex VM using Samba to move files from my windows machine to my CentOS (Plex) server. I could only read, not write. Going home soon to try to figure out why. I believe I set up the permissions correctly, but maybe I have to go back through it.

Just out of curiosity, for Plex, why do they need to do more than read? If you're streaming the files from the share, all they need is the ability to READ those shares, not write to them, as a rule...

Isn't Plex caching thumbnails etc? Not sure, but it could try to store them next to the media.

It's been over a year since I really played with Plex, or just about a year, but I believe there is a system directory for Plex it stores all those in...

As I understand it, he can't write to the share, so he setup the share inside samba. He is actually trying to move data to the samba share from windows but since he doesn't have write access he can't.

If he mounted a windows share inside his plex vm , then as you mention, he would only need read access to it @thanksajdotcom

Correct. I want to be able to transfer files from my windows machine to my linux server by just clicking and dragging. I have a lot to transfer. I'm sure there is another way though.

@wirestyle22 Did you set up an anonymous share, or are you just sharing your home folder?

@Romo I honestly don't know. I ended up trying some weird stuff and breaking the install. Lol. I reinstalled and am trying again.

Probably should only do one at a time.

Epic SAN failure at one of our sites this morning. Both controllers are offline, possibly toasted.
The onsite our IT staff have got everything back up and running but we're still a SAN down.

Now we know that you have to be kidding because as we all know, dual controller failures in a SAN are impossible.

                                          What brand SAN is this?
