@DustinB3403 Yeah, I will likely start with one server and add one server a month. I have to get a small rack as well.

You can always build your own. If you can find something used at a good price, that's probably the better way to go.

@travisdh1 Ha I thought you meant "build your own server" which of course you can, but is it cost effective to do so?

Racks are pretty cheap, you can find them at metal scrap yards for like 10 bucks for a full rack.

I had one of these before. Didn't really like it.

@aaronstuder Just check your local metal scrap yards I bet that they have several hundred racks available.

My closest metal scrap yard is over an hour away 😞

Do you really want a rack or a cabinet? Most severs have to be mounted from the front and back.

"Materials for an enclosed 20U server rack came out to just under $400. For an open rack it was only about $100 including casters."

                                  Probably several hundred dollars.

the problem with any business class servers though, for me, is noise.

Yeah, that can be a big issue in a small living space!

I was amazed at how much quiter my new (2015) server was than my old servers.

Of course, that is just one. 🙂

I'm fortunate enough that my house is large enough and arranged in the "right ways" so that I barely hear my server.

Yeah I could put a setup like this in my HVAC room and probably be OK.
