AmpLifi

@JaredBusch cool. It would have been nice for UBNT to use EOP setup instead of WiFi repeater setup or mixed the two. Have the WiFi ap units use eop to connect to the router but use ubnt roaming and hand off tech for going between ap units.

So every power outlet in your house becomes an "ethernet cable" effectively?
Eh ok if it works.
It does not work. I've had 2 sets and seen them deployed in other contexts. They are horribly, buggy, low performance. I've had poopy wifi boxes be more reliable.
It's not so much the hardware, it's the electrical wiring of the house, sometimes they just flat out refuse to work.

Yeah, this is pretty standard. We've been using that for two decades almost for home Ethernet (I think that I bought mine in 2000) and before that we used it for intercoms and such. Works really well, better than wireless in most cases. It's very standard. So standard that some German power companies function as ISPs delivering the same thing over the outdoor power grid!
We had a thread on it recently. I think @Nic is a big user.

You have to test, a lot of people can't use wireless for similar reasons. But I've had great luck with them, even connecting buildings.

@DustinB3403 something like this, you would need to power the ap because it would be just plugged in. It would even look like what they have now for the AmpLiFi

Which is it? lol

Like everything else in the IT world: YMMV, lol.

@Breffni-Potter Yeah, that's not cool when the in home/office wiring isn't the greatest.

@DustinB3403 The FCC stopped the power companies here in the states form using it. It made the electrical lines antennas broadcasting noise.

Maybe at some point Ubnt AmpLiFi will add eop to it's portfolio. I did want to bring up that LiFi is a separate technology that uses the visible light spectrum for communication. Just a theory that ubnt will get into the home market for it given the name "ampLIFI?" any thoughts? you never know

This looks pretty cool. I really like their EdgeMax line and their Unifi line of products. I updated my house to and ERX and a Unifi AC access point about 2-3 months ago and have never looked back. No more restarts of the wifi router, or any other hiccups. Plus, the Unifi units have cool style points for the blue glowing ring. My wife doesn't appreciate it as much as I do. "Must be a nerd thing" she says.

@fuznutz04 It is a nerd thing. I have been putting in Unifi systems at my friends businesses. I would like a more extensive firewall device. The edge router platform is nice but not as nice as a sophos utm. I would like to get a hold of a AmpLifi system to give it a swing and see what kind of features it has.

I haven't played with the Sophos UTMs at all, but for the price of the ERX ($100), you can't go wrong. Some places (specifically my house) wouldn't need all the extra tools available in a UTM device. They definitely have their place though in some businesses.

What is it about vendors wanting to bring the wifi router to the living room?
