Like Automation of the things.
Or quests (not really in this one) but some of em. It's not just digging in dirt, or building a house.

Most of the objectives are just building into whatever mod you want. Essentially all of the mods are "technology" mods because you have to progress from the basics to that item and onward.
In Infinity Evolved all of the mods are crossed so you need parts from here, and parts from that one to progress. It's a lot of fun.

Power production is a huge beast in the game too...
Solar panels, reactors, wind mills, water millers, generators
So many options.
Big Reactors, radiation poisoning.... gah... Exploded reactors blowing up your base and killing you too..... losing days our weeks worth of play time.

Is maintenance a thing or do they just explode eventually and then you have to replace

That almost sounds like Fallout 4, that I've played like 5 minutes of so far.

I haven't even got to the creatures that can spawn and blow you / your base up.
Blood Magic has some really REALLY cool things you can do too. Like summon a meteor from space to blast a large chunk of ground up with all sorts of resources.
Or mob spawners

Mostly CS:GO and R6 Siege this weekend - but was away for most of it (long weekend in the UK)! Got a LAN at work this Friday so should be fun!

I mean... it kind of is, as are most MOBA/S that are out there. I'm not saying that it won't be fun and that I won't pick it up, eventually, but it looks like game play isn't much different... maybe a bit faster.
I wish they had done Starcraft Ghost like they had originally intended that looked like could have been an awesome property.

lol it totally is. The only thing I can say is that Blizzard did a better job optimizing it and I'm sure will do a better job supporting it. I don't really care what I'm playing as long as its fun. I've been gaming with the same 4 people for like 14 years now.

No doubt, Team Fortress 2 was a crazy amount of fun until the hats update. We played competitively for a season or two before real life got in the way. We weren't good by any stretch but we had fun. I fully expect the Overwatch community to be as toxic as the rest of the MOBA's have been. I think TF2 was special in that it really didn't have that, or maybe only playing with the same 4 or 5 people insulated me from it.

LAN Tonight! CS:GO, DotA 2, TF2 and the new Unreal Tournament are all on the cards apparently...should be fun!
