      Hi Aaron,

The ServiceDesk Plus standard edition has been already released for free, but regarding the ServiceDesk Plus MSP, the release date for free edition has not been announced yet.

Hope it will be announced soon.

      Regards,

Thanks. Techcrunch said it already had. Although the MSP version is behind the other.

Spiceworks does not dominate any software market. They are a minuscule player in the helpdesk software space.

@scottalanmiller Yup. Their biggest selling point is that they're free. For free, they're alright. Lacking a lot but it's a loss leader for the community. If I was in their shoes, I would only be putting forth a genuine superficial effort as well but playing it out otherwise to keep hype up. It's smart marketing albeit very "grey" in many terms.

@ajstringham it isn't quite a loss leader. It makes a small revenue on its on. It's more of a "tiny margin" leader.

It's enough to make me take a look at it again. I've always liked Zoho products anyways.

@scottalanmiller It's a loss leader. Think about it. The penny deals at Staples during back to school. They get small revenue on it but it's still costing more to ship and store and stock than it's selling for. Spiceworks has a team for dev and support on the app. I find it hard to believe they are making any money on the app itself. At best I'd guess they come close to breaking even. But the general term is loss leader. You are going a little too literal...

At staples that is a loss leader. They actually lose money. Spiceworks never meant for the community to make money. They actually make profit on the helpdesk app. It's not the loss leader. It's the product that they intended to sell.

It's a little bit literal but one is intended to pull someone in. The other was the actually goal.

Yes. It may be what the original plan was but it's most certainly not anymore. So would it be more appropriate to refer to it as the gateway drug?

@ajstringham they still feel the app is the product.

@scottalanmiller Who does? If it's anyone it's the exec team. I can guarantee the sales team knows it ain't. The CMs know it ain't. Anyone working IT there knows it ain't.

@scottalanmiller Doesn't change the point of my post though. Only people who might be clinging to legacy thinking as far as the company are founding/early members.
