What about HIPAA in regards to slack and file sharing?

What about it? If Slack with sign a SBA, and you can audit them, then you're fine - if not, you can't use Slackfor HIPAA based items.

The idea of ditching email for something like Slack or this would be awesome!

Oh yes, when paid for, Slack is a great tool because you have the history and channels can be dedicated to projects, etc.

But for a generic "IT Pro Chat," I see no point.

what is this free version of this ITPro chat thing missing that Slack has?

It is Rocket Chat, an open source chat platform. So you can host it yourself or use someone else providing the service. As for what it is missing? No idea. I have never used it. I think it is a good comparable solution if an organization does not want to pay for Slack.

One downside to it is you lose the integration you have between Slack and other tools like Asana.

It doesn't appear to have AD or Wordpress integration at the moment. AD would be huge for the corporate world and I would like to see Wordpress integration to integrate with existing websites.

Yeah, that is insanely expensive. Office 365 Premium is the same price...lol

Is this like one administrator account and the AD users don't count?

It's open source. So you CAN brand it. Whether or not they built in hooks for that is another question.

There is a reason that we didn't consider it for long. And really, Slack isn't all that good.

Even $6 a month is unreasonable. It should be $12 a user per year if anything

A small business with 100 employees would pay $15,000 a year for CHAT!
