Cheapest 24U Server rack/cabient
-
What's the max depth you need? I can definitely find you a couple options under $700. Sound like you don't need an enclosure, but just a 4 post option at 24u? Is that accurate or do you have any other specifics?
-
My initial thought is this Open 4-Post. It's adjustable so you can fit to any depth you need, extremely strong (3000 lb load) although that's probably overkill for you. Ships unassembled which considering dim weights are a monster, that saves you quite a bit on shipping if you don't mind assembly, otherwise we can assemble for a charge and ship at that dim weight. The image is the 42u, but on the page you have a 24u for $389.

Have you looked at an ikea rack? Not sure if you can get 24U out of those or not.

Pretty much. Although I read someone use their bookshelf to do something bigger. It will hold a significant amount of weight.

At some point, when I actually HAVE a server or two.. I plan to build this with some minor alterations:

Not sure What's the min dell rail mount like 24-29 inches I can't remember off the top of my head. enclosure is preferred.
This is the cheapest I can find: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Norco-C-24U-24U-Rack-Cabinet-/301380755883?hash=item462bb161ab:g:L3oAAOxy9tpSA-Tg

You guys do will-call right? I've been looking for a sweet rack, and I need somewhere to put my equipment too!
-
Yes we can do will call. What kind of rack are you looking at? If you're located in the area we have a lot of racks on our showroom floor too.

I bought a full height 4 post off of craigslist in mint condition for $40 bucks.
Shelf's and trays $10 and $5 respectively per what I wanted.

Looks like the Norco 24U rack from new egg is actually cheaper.
-
i think i've got the rails they used to build the ikea rack. i was going to build my own...but i moved from my house with my shop and didn't end up building it. i'd send that stuff to you for pretty cheap. Basically i have 4 of these posts

That Norco might work, but looking at it, I'm curious what the usable dimensions are inside. The exterior depth shows 31.5" and the Dell Standard depth is 28 7/8. That's cutting it pretty
close. I haven't found a spec sheet or anyone talking about the interior dims yet. This is a little damaged apparently, but might be the right idea.
