Both are reasonably priced, the only problem you might have is if you find your self wanting to do more with them. Have you looked up the system specs and price for accessories (more memory) if you want to load them up a bit more?

      Is it cost justifiable?

Max RAM is 64 GB, which would be more than enough for these workloads. CPU upgrade is possible.

Not a bad price. Is this for home? Proliants like this are insanely loud.

Look for the DL380 rather than the DL360, much better drive options. Price is typically almost the same. We have a DL385 G5. Still a good unit.

No it's for a very small shop.

Ok I'll keep my eye out for one of those. Thanks!

Have you looked at xByte? Seems like you could get a decent syetem from them for a bit more but still have support for it.

No, I'll look there also. Thanks!

Oh... I didn't realize how inexpensive those were... You may not be able to find anything comparable from xByte.

Ok. I'll take a look anyway. Might be a possibility.

From Kingston for the DL360 G5 here's there price.

                        Full 64GB Kit.

So with the price to upgrade the memory on that server (at least from Kingston) you might be better off putting the total cost towards a better unit, that's configured how you expect to use it.

Memory on old servers is a premium, you don't want to go that route. You buy new(ish) if you want to upgrade memory.

Like buying parts for a classic car from the 50's. Limited supply, so they have you over a barrel.

Exactly, they know that if you are buying those parts that you don't really have a choice.

Plus the parts are not in demand and often no longer manufactured, so there is a market pressure for the price to go up as well.

Kingston ram is way over priced though. We don't buy that for our servers in our data center.. Not sure why you would for home.

Dell tends to be quieter than HP. No perfect option. Workstations can be good choices or custom builds. Or just a really well insulated basement room.

@Jason It's still a fact that the memory is no longer made or very rarely made.

So the price is marked at a premium.

I've had good luck finding older RAM through Axiom at a good price.

You can get lucky getting memory packs from eBay sometimes too.
