Wow it feels great to get something small when you work extra hours on a difficult issue. My boss just gave me a card and a $25 Visa Gift Card. He said I know it isn't what your time was worth, but I wanted to give you something for your hard work.

And that's what a good manager should do. It doesn't have to be constantly. But consistently for employees who go above and beyond.

That's cool, but that really says something about the company too. Funds for things like this should be there for managers - it's doesn't need to be thousands of dollars (unless you have a ton of employees), but a few hundred a year or so would probably cover it.
