@scottalanmiller It is the value of time spent troubleshooting vs time spent replacing. Sometimes it makes more sense to replace something than try and figure out what it is. If I spend 2 hours trying to figure something out on a $100 printer, I should have just replaced it.

Yup, which is often the case with operating systems, too!

Exactly. A re-image solves almost everything.

I have had the S8+ since its release, and have never had it freeze on me. It is a super quick phone.

Yes the hardware is excellent and Android looks great on it. I'm really liking it. I wish it had the 6gb ram the Asus phone comes with, but I haven't yet noticed any performance issues.

May I just got a bad phone which is the root cause of the freezing.

The Note 8 has 6GB of RAM. But it will cost more than $88. Yeah, not sure what the freezing thing could be.

Unfortunately I could only get store credit/gift card... They didn't have the note 8 or I would have gotten that one for like $50 more or whatever.

Come to think of it. I have seen weird behavior with reboots and freezing on other Android phones when there was a bad SD card inserted. Do you even have one in there?

@tim_g Remove it for a couple days and see if your freezing stops.

    • "Home" Lab - Is it Cost-Effective to Run at Home?

I have a couple of "white" box systems running Windows 10 that I run for various every day use, gaming and for Plex but I hibernate them a lot of the time to save money on the electricity bills. I have been considering getting some server hardware to run some VMs but I am not sure if I would be better off setting up a hosted environment or paying for the increased electricity, as it is kind of expensive here, in Southern California.

I have a 2 u Dell r710 that I set up about a year ago. Runs 24x7 with Plex , various other VMs, and general storage. I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference on my electric bill at all. How expensive is electricity in CA?!

For Tier 1, which is a very small tier, it is a little over 8 cents per kWh for delivery and 7.5 cents for generation. The next tier is 16.8 cents per kWh for delivery and 7.5 cents per kWh for generation.

      Geeze. Ours is 7.5 total.

Yet another reason I want to move out of state.

    • RE: Forcing Group Policy

In the future you can also use this command (run as admin) on the affected system to view which GPOs are being applied.

      gpresult /h c:\gp.html /f

Once it creates the file, open it and show all content and do a ctrl + f for the GPO name or even the setting specific to the issue to see if it says it is being applied or blocked. You can use this to troubleshoot link order or permissions issues or even if it is showing at all (maybe you have a wmi filter or link disabled)

Oh man. Unbelievable! I say we burn the whole SSN system down.

SSN is not the issue, at all. The issue is 100% with these unscrupulous private companies that don't secure their information nor do they use any reliable form of ID. There is nothing particularly wrong with the SSN system.

The SSN system was never meant to be used for identification. It has devolved into that over the decades. Also, if you think the government is any better at protecting your private information, I have a bridge to sell...

I still standardize on 8 GB. But at our next upgrade I'll take a look to see if 16 is really needed.

I buy display port monitors now for display port machines.... love the single cable, no convertors.

You can get dp to hdmi cables. I was using adapters from monoprice but had several cause intermittent issues so I decided to do the single cable solution and it seems to be much better so far.

    • VMware vSphere Update Manager Client - Is there a version 6.5?

I just upgraded my vCenter Server (Windows install) from 6.0 U3 to 6.5 U1e. I also upgrade vSphere Update Manager to 6.5 on the same server. On my workstation, I was looking through my installed vmware programs and saw the VMware vSphere Update Manager Client (version 6.0 U3). I Googled and scoured vmware's site but haven't been able to find anything mentioning that program, except the docs for version 5.1.

Does anyone know if it has been abandoned?

Glad to know this worked. I have had 3 different Synology NAS boxes over the past 6 years- An 1812+ that was just retired, 1813+, still going after almost 5 years and a new 3617xs and wondered what would happen if the box died. Never had any issues with any (knocking on wood).

You can set up an email alert so that you know as soon as they are available. That's why the people without those alerts never see the option.

I never once saw an alert and I setup 2 different addresses. LOL
