    • RE: Comparing MeshCentral 2 to ScreenConnect

Couple things on the nginx proxy things.

First one I know is something boneheaded I messed up in the configs, but can't figure out what it is. I'm getting an unable to connect web socket error. Haven't really had time to go look at logs yet, but figured I'd see if it's something someone would know.

Second, why do the Nginx proxy instructions assume that Nginx and MeshCentral are running in the same instance? I'd never run them both withing the same instance, separate VMs at least, and neither should anyone else.

I've been getting back into Elite Dangerous lately. Wonder if anyone else plays here?

I started playing (well did the tutorial bit), not sure if I'm going to play regular or just a now and again thing.

Mainly been trying out GeForce Now games I can get cheap 😁

I've found that it could be one of those addictive games, just because it's so huge.

Or is this "if" you want support?

I believe there was a post someplace around here about getting rid of that pop up.

    • RE: Microsoft Updates Licensing Rights for Dedicated Cloud

Looks like Microsoft finally allowing licenses to be used in hosting services in a way that doesn't mean purchasing a license for every server at the host, but only for a select few places. I'll grant you that they are the major hosting providers, but that still leaves out a bunch of our favorites around here.

Huntsman aren't really a problem, the biggest thing they do is frighten you, it's other mongrels that can make you pretty crook.

I used to be scared of snakes, not as much now after learning how they & why they react and how to treat snake bite. You don't want to get between a mother snake & it's babies either, they go mad at you.

Are Deers feral in the USA? They are down here, they're a real pest.

Most are. A few farms actually raise them around here, but 99% are feral.

Either kind is tasty, but I don't like processing them either. Tried it once, and no thanks.

      Hi,

I wonder if this ever came across where you use HAproxy but wish to made it redundant and can sustain it going down. I know it rarely ever go down but what do you do if you want to make it redundant.

You'd be looking at changing DNS via scripts if you need to have a high availability HAproxy. Totally doable with any DNS provider that gives API access.

Anything that can do all that stuff is going to be complicated to learn. Photoshop is just as hard to learn.

Access point on the firewall routed to the wired network.

      FFS, there is the issue.

I know you normally have a network dedicated to POS. That doesn't magically free up availability for the wifi network when things get busy. The wireless environment is probably clogged full when the place gets busy. That'll be your bottleneck.

FFS explain what you mean? Nothing you just said makes any sense to me.

The Tablet is Not Currently in Use.

You've been talking about the wired network, but the tablets that are having issues aren't even connected to it.

Connectwise is my latest everyday driver, and it's design is just terrible in addition to being stupid complex to setup.

Frankly, none of them that I've ever used were all that good. Serviceable is about so good as it got.

      home office?

Yep. Working from home all the time made us rethink the office setup. Got me enough room for all 3 of my monitors, printer, the 2 monitors for work, and my home lab server back in action. The wife dubbed it the "Command Center".

I suppose I'll post pictures after I get it all put back together this afternoon. We do have a thread for that here.

About to fire up some Elite Dangerous.

I've been seriously ADD the last couple of days with the games I've been playing. I've played Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 9, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Doom (the new one), Killing Floor 2, The Forrest, Outcast: Second Contact, and Vector.

Can't seem to get settled into a Rhythm on anything.

I so want all 3 installments of the Final Fantasy 7 remake already. I've got the original, but haven't played it in years now.

Ansible is the correct solution, and I guess you could save output to log file with log_plays plugin. Perhaps AWX or Tower have reporting capability, I haven't used Tower and I briefly looked and AWX.

Other configuration management solutions might do what you need too.

Tower is pricey, depending on your needs. AWX lacks "support", as it is free.

Also, AWX is treated as a toy and has constant issues with the current release software. You can see all the issues I had when experimenting with it: https://mangolassi.it/topic/19300/install-awx-on-centos-7-with-docker

    • RE: Backup strategy for customer data?

@Pete-S This made me think of something I haven't considered since the 90s. Back then UNIX based systems were so much better at streaming data to the tape that we'd use IRIX systems to make backups of all the things rather than Windows. Anyone know if OS makes a difference in keeping tape drives fed with data today?

Back to your current question. A worst case scenario with either option will lead to full restore from off-site. So Option 1 would make the most sense to me. Feeding enough data to today's tape drives can be a challenge even from local disc.
