We can't all have your level of income @scottalanmiller, or get everything you get for free or insane discounts.

Not having a income to afford something doesn't entitle you to free, reduce stuff or to steal it. Seriously Go in Walmart and try that. just walk out saying it's okay I can't afford this item. That's entitlement attitude someone else has it so I should get it. It's stealing it does not matter it it's a tangible product or not.

Again, you view using a proper license in this way as stealing. I don't. Argue all you want, but the logic in my head will not view it that way. The example you use is irrelevant to this example.

A.J., this is why you fail so much, so hard, so often. You cannot admit you are wrong when you are wrong.

In the meantime, don't be surprised if people start reporting you to the BSA:

      https://reporting.bsa.org/r/report/add.aspx?src=us&ln=en-us

Not to mention, but you may also be violating the TOC of your FIOS connection from Verizon since you are on a consumer plan.

That is actually not true. I openly admit when I'm wrong. When someone wants to tell me I'm being a complete idiot or doing something bass ackwards, I always listen. I choose whether or not to take their opinions seriously or not. @scottalanmiller is my mentor, and I don't always agree with him either. But I will always admit when I'm wrong. A very good friend taught me a few years ago that when you f*** up, just admit it. Don't try to blame someone or something else. You f***ed up, just own up and take what happens. One of the single biggest and most helpful pieces of advice I've ever received. What makes me seem like I don't admit to it is that I don't back down from my opinions easily. Also, my perspective on things is often different from others, and many people view things from a strict technical standpoint that I view as a perspective matter. It is what it is.

I tried to boot the system without RAM but there is no beep sound heard from the motherboard

A computer cannot boot without RAM. It cannot even get to the point to beep. There is no need to test in this way as there is no way that it can function. It's like trying to start a car with no gas - you know it won't start, so it doesn't tell you anything that you didn't already know.

Some boards have onboard memory, a minute amount. I've seen it. It won't get much past POST, but it will boot.

However, if I can get something for free instead of paying for it, I will not apologize for that.

That's what people I know who are on welfare say....

Some people who are on welfare deserve to be. Many don't but don't tear down those who have a legitimate right to it because of those who don't.

No one deserves to be on it. it's it's only an opportunity for them to get back on their feet. No one is entitled to get free money. You might say they deserve to get a better paying job so they don't need to be on it.

I can see where you're coming from, but the program is there for a purpose. The purpose may be good, but how people abuse the system is not. Again, I'm sure there are plenty of people who have taken advantage of welfare and then been successful at getting back on their feet. Like a kitchen knife, it can be used to make delicious food, or as the weapon of choice of a serial killer. The knife is just a tool. Don't fix the tool, fix how people use it.

So I asked one of the guys here, and he told me that 5 user limit is just for our online store. If you want to call in, or go through a distributor or VAR, you can buy just one license or however much you like.

Hmm, do your VARs/Resellers know that? I've worked with one in the past who said 5 was the minimum license number.

      Yes, please provide some names!

The fact is that we aren't the RUDE ones...you are. We've asked for SOME info to help us determine what you're dealing with. You haven't told us what type of system, provided screenshots, or done anything to give us the info we've asked for. You're acting as if you're totally helpless because "I don't know Linux", but now you're just copping out and being lazy. Neither are acceptable in IT.

If English isn't your first language, so be it. However, you type like the current generation's teenagers text, which is horrendous. The fact you typed out rude as "roood" proves my point. At this point, I'm considering you a troll and will provide no further help in the future until you can act with some decorum and decency.

English may not be his/her first language. Just saying.

I can respect that if it's not but the lack of any attempt at proper grammar shows to me this person obviously doesn't care, which indicates troll. If it was someone trying but not doing so hot, I give kudos for the effort. This is someone making an effort to deliberately use BAD grammar.

We've been trying to help, asking you to provide more information so that we can actually be of help, and you refuse to help yourself. At this point, we can draw only one of two conclusions: either you're totally incompetent and an idiot, or you're a troll. Now it's possible both are true, but at this point it's one or the other. So which is it?

      Linux is really hard uhhhh,..................................................

Not really, just like anything you have to learn it before using it. Windows is incredibly hard for Linux people who are used to the easy, simple world of configuration text files with all data nice and obvious. Windows is very complex by comparison.

      This is so true!

      Welcome to ML 🙂

Ditto this. If you're using CLI, it'd be

      vi networking.conf

Then, when you're done with the changes, Esc followed by :wq and Enter. It sounds like you're making the changes but they aren't applying.

That's not normally where the configuration is. That's Ubuntu only, non-standard.

I was just using a generic name for the .conf file.

No single networking conf file in the Red Hat, Suse, Fedora world. It's by interface.

I am aware of that. I was just using the word networking in place of example.conf or whatever.

Besides, @voipmarkets, if you think like that, it's a defeatist attitude. It's not hard. It's another challenge to conquer and overcome. It's another thing to learn. It's another skill to learn. If you claim to be IT, and you don't have at least A LITTLE experience and familiarity with Linux, I don't consider you IT. Learning things like the basics of vi, the essentials of how to navigate a Linux CLI, etc, are essential skills for anyone who claims to work IT.

Has anyone used the Windows Repair All in One tool before?

I know most would suggest re-installation but at the moment that is not an option.

The PC couldn't access the internet via any browser, but had no malware or viruses, nor could I find issues with the drive via Seatools.

Attempted system restore but failed because of a Windows service not running. Customer said she saw a message that said that too. Tried Chdsk /r but stalled at 10% for 30 minutes.

Now that I have checked everything else it's time to run Chdsk again.

If the drive has data on it you need, slave it into another machine and pull the data. Then wipe and reload.
