So I posted this a couple weeks ago... http://mangolassi.it/topic/3138/followed-by-a-non-recruiter-or-headhunter
Anyways, on Friday I had my second interview, which was an in-person interview with the CEO and my main contact. It went quite well and I was excited, except they talked about me doing a rolling 4-day on/4-day off schedule. It would be 4x12 hour days from 10a-10p. Now, that sounds like an awesome schedule, except that I have a few things I do each week that that would interfere with, making that not doable for me. Well, I talked to my mentor, @scottalanmiller , and he suggested asking them if we could put the job "on hold". I told them I really liked the opportunity but would not be able to make that schedule work. They were going to be hiring for a more normal shift down the road, but this is what they needed now.
Well, I got an email back from my contact and was asked to call him. So when I took lunch today, I called him and was expecting either a "well, sorry we couldn't make this work" or "we might be able to hold off for now". Instead, he simply asked if I had any other positions I was looking at, which was a no (because he wanted to make sure someone else didn't get me this time because he wasn't "in time"...his words) and asked how interested I was in the position. I told him very. We talked about the other shifts that they were going to be looking for, which is M-F, 7a-4p and 11a-8p. I tell him the 7-4 would be better for me. Well, he tells me he wants to talk to a couple of the guys internal to him and he'll get back to me.
About 4 hours later, I get an email that what they can do is have me work a flip-flop between the 7-4 and 11-8 with two weeks at each, back and forth. He said they know I have stuff going on in the evening one night a week, so that one night, when I'm working the 11-8, I can get off at 7 so that I can do what I need to. He asked if this was doable. I was blown away! This company really seemed to be going out of their way to make things work for me, even adjusting their hiring plan so that they could get me right away. I told him to draw up the paperwork and that I'd put in my notice tomorrow. I sent an email to the recruiting agency already telling them my last day will be Friday, December 12th. I start December 15th at nDivision.
In my second interview, it was mentioned how my contact had seen my writing on www.thanksaj.com and how prolific I am in online social media, and the CEO is very intrigued at having me do some work on things like their Facebook page. Overall, I'm EXTREMELY EXCITED to see what this new opportunity has to bring and what I'll be able to learn from all this. They mentioned how they love to have their employees complete Dell certification training and get certified. I've always been an HP fan but maybe Dell will start to grow on me...right @NetworkNerd?
Anyways, thanks guys!
