Congrats AJ. That's a little like having a wife on layaway. Just have to make some payments and she is yours.

Sadly they don't come with those replacement guarantees like the old Russian bride programs did.

LOL Well, I just happened to find the ring that I've been looking for...that is to say find something that just rang true with what I wanted (pun intended). It's a single blue diamond for the centerpiece with white diamonds on either side and some of a twist to it all in white gold. 🙂

Doing some self-reflection. Got a job today. Back in NY less than a week and I got a job. Got an interview in the morning I'm keeping more to keep the door open to this place for the future than anything. However, I am going back to Staples and plan to have my old job back in about two months time...I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I was this excited about a job...maybe NTG around April 2013 but that's about it...

So are they going back to Lync? I can't watch the video right now.

They JUST released Lync's replacement today, Skype for Business. It is TODAY that they stopped Lync.

Oh, he said Skype for Business was dropped. Based on what you just said, implemented, started, enacted, enabled or any other word would have been more appropriate. When I hear dropped, I figured that meant they'd decided not to use it, which is where my confusion came in. Like when packets drop. It doesn't mean that they've connected, it means that they are lost or no longer reaching their destination.

    • Oldie but goodie

I used to have a Linux podcast called Linux Geekdom (kingdom for geeks). The site went down years ago but for some reason I was feeling nostalgic today and so I went and dug up this...

http://goinglinux.com/shownotes.html#glp135 (go to year 2011 and episode 135)
      https://archive.org/details/LinuxGeekdom

I can't listen to them as I hate listening to myself talk (waiting for jokes on that one) but I thought I'd share. Started the site originally when I was 16...it's kind of cool to see how far I've come since then...

    • Skype Video Call Recording

Looking to do some Skype video call recording in the future, and are looking for recommendations for software that can accomplish this. I've looked at the list on Skype's website: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12395/how-can-i-record-my-skype-calls

My question is has anyone used any of these pieces of software, and can make a recommendation? Are there any other options you'd recommend? Are there any free/open-source programs that will accomplish the same thing?

      Thanks,
      A.J.

    • Twas the Night Before SpiceWorld

Written by the WONDERFUL and BRILLIANT Matt Stephenson! @PackMatt73

      Link:
      https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/twas-night-before-spiceworld-matt-stephenson

Twas the night before Spiceworld, all thru the ATX. The datacenters were humming, optimized to their best.

The VMs were spun up by the SysAmdin with care. It was the final Pepsi Challenge: KVM vs VMware

The OGs were restless in their bright orange beds, with visions of irate Spiceheads rampaging thru their heads

With me in my bow-tie, and Richard’s bright orange beard, soon to arrive and make Austin weird(er)

When at the data center center there arose quite a ruckus. Oh No! It’s hackers from LizardSquad! They’re here to REDACTED us!

The OGs were wondering how to give the data center immunity, when Sean shouted out “Call in the community!”

The siren call went out to Heads of Spice and Guys of Green, who grabbed all their gear and converged on the scene. It was quite a mess, these hackers weren’t nice. But no job is too much for that man, the Chief Spice!

“I need you Bud G and SQLRage, this thing isn’t going to get better with age! Dennis Kelley and Lenn, this attack is a killer! It looks like a job that needs Scott Alan Miller! If we can’t get this fixed, our company is done. Please put a call in to Huw3481! We need more we need more!” Chief Spice barked with a laugh… “get me the Reverend Doctor Paragraph. A last Spicehead is needed cuz this attack is mean, man… I think it would be prudent to bring in the Little Green Man!”

The roster was assembled, the data center was a wreck. Then the Green Guys began arriving to say “what the heck?!?”

“Fear not, Folks of Green!” Chief Spice bellowed quite loudly. “Francis and Jay and Greg did us quite proudly.”

“Well, since we’re all here what should we do?” queried Nic from Webroot? They all looked perplexed till A.J. said “I am Groot!”

What a great idea! Let’s all get together. Austin is beautiful regardless of weather. So they started the conference a bit early that night, after crushing those LizardSquad fiends in a one-sided fight.

A gleeful shout from Alienvault Kate “What a nasty group! We pounded those suckers… but wait, we’re missing someone… where’s Katie Drucker?

Then Ivan piped up “she’ll be here on Thursday, but can’t you read man? She got married last year, now it’s Katie Freedman!”

Chief Spice looked around and his heart swelled with pride. The team had rallied to stop the hackers inside. The founders all smiled, practically bursting each kilt, they couldn’t be happier with this thing they had built.

Then they piled into a Smart Car driven by Spice Rex. You’d be surprised how much can fit in one, despite the written specs.

We heard them exclaim as they drove out of site

“Happy Spiceworld to all and to all a good night!”

Just got a call about doing a one-hour consulting call for a company that wants to know more about MSPs/IT Outsourcers, how they work, what they offer, as well as public versus private cloud. Consulting rate was $117/hour! I know for many people that's low but that's pretty good for me!

Canon did an interesting experiment where they made one guy have six different imaginary personas, and each one was captured by a different photographer, and the results were very interesting...it truly is in the eye of the beholder.

@thanksajdotcom The funny thing was this claim was made by a member recommending Acronis.

Something you must purchase, and I was called more of a salesperson that Katie is.

Who literally has vendor tags there. Who's goal is to promote a product with the goal for making a sale.

Literally no sales at all for the open source stuff, like what the crap is that.

Yup, because about three years ago, it went from being a community with really good, interactive vendors to basically a giant CRM that you had to pay to access. But one of the policies of this site is to try to avoid bashing "over there", and avoid excessive us vs them discussions on the forums. It does nothing good and lots bad. So I'm going to end this conversation now, but I'll conclude with the thought that it's because of sentiments like yours and many other factors that this community was created, and I'm very proud to have been a part of that, and proud to have been a big part of helping this community experience great "organic growth".

    • A Little Piece of History

So yesterday I got to see someone I've only seen twice in three years, but is someone who was one of the most influential people in my life. When I was hired on at my first retail job, this is the man who hired me. I was the first person to ever be hired directly into the tech department, and not have to start in supplies and then get moved over. A precedent was set starting with me.

While @Minion-Queen and I have one of the most amazing team efforts you could ever witness when we work with clients together, especially onsite, this man and I have one of the most amazing support relationships together. We are so similar it's actually quite scary. But this man helped make me who I am today, not just as an employee, but as a human being.

I give you my dear friend, and former sales manager, as well as one of the greatest trainers I've ever met in my life, Mark. We've been hanging out, talking, reminiscing and laughing together for about 16 hours now, and while I gave up what might have been the craziest night at a bar in my life to date surrounded by friends, it was worth it to see this man.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your friendship, guidance and support meant more to me than you can ever know.
