Need help with OU's
I have Server 2008r2 running AD and RDS (I know, it's a no-no) and I have 3 other Servers connected to it (2x2008r2 and 2012). I read about OUs and how it would allow specified restrictions per group versus per user. I have no OUs, just users.
I would like to move my users out the "root" of AD into newly created OU's which I don't know how to do.
From what I remember reading a few years back I can add "rules" to OU's after creating them.
To create a new user, I usually use copy, so with OU's do you copy a user within that OU?
Thanks for any input!

RE: Why are XP Users Not Flocking to Linux?
We tried 4 years ago for a client that was looking to save money. After months of formatting issues with docs and spreadsheets (shared with users using Office) they asked how much do I have to spend to change back to MS and when can it be done.

I am always amazed what I can learn from this forum!

RE: Dell R920 is Out
With the 24 drives in RAID 10 I believe that this would be a good fit for one of my clients, sadly I hear the datacenter they are moving to suggested a rig 1/10 the power with a magic SAN device.

RE: New Office 365 Features
Makes sense. Finally I have a really good reason to root my Asus. The rooted versions are using Jelly Bean.

RE: How do you stay organized

I am not organized by nature but my son and husband are and my son needed major structure as we homeschooled him.
- WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN, in the same place every time. In our house we have white boards everywhere. We have one for grocery lists, one for household chores one for To do when we leave the house next.
- For Work I WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN, in the same place every time... I have an undated organizer that is a full size notebook 2 pages per day. Even though I sit at a desk with 3 monitors, 2 tablets and a laptop I still would rather hand write quick notes. Every morning I read the day before, transfer any items not done to today and start on my day.
- ONENOTE is my life- I have a daily journal to keep track of what I have done every day. It's not even full sentences or grammatically correct just a list of what I did/who I talked to
- Use your calendar for everything. I have my work calendar and my personal calendar in my outlook and it syncs to my tablets and phone so that everything goes there and is synced so my life isn't a disaster.
- For reminders to do something at a certain time I use the reminder app that came on my phone or add a task to outlook to ding at me to remember to do something.
For me the big key is to not to try and remember anything at all. The space in my head is needed for actual work and not for memory usage on things that could be written down and have an electronic device remind me about it.
My wife follows number 1 and 2, but I will just let paper stack. That's why I had to do the electronic way. Life without #5 would be MADNESS!! If a client calls me to do something at a later date, I create them a ZenDesk ticket.

RE: How do you stay organized
ZenDesk for ticketing (WHMCS also forwards to ZD),
RepairShopr for IT services (has reminders) and appointments via Google calendar
Outlook's calendar with Google calendar imported for odds and ends.
Have both Evernote and OneNote (moved to Sharepoint) for documentation and how to's from the last 4 years.

RE: New Office 365 Features
Dammit..my Asus Transformer is too old for the MS Office app. Does anyone know if it's the tablet hardware or Ice Cream Sandwich?

I had noticed the 50GB today, but didn't know about the extra licenses!

RE: Reliable All-in-Ones?
The Epson Workforce series have proven to be quite reliable. We replaced our Brother with a WF2540 model (ink jet). Only con is we haven't found the right aftermarket ink for color.

Ha! I tried to Google this to see who posted this first. Where did you find it?

RE: Windows 8.1 Update 1 installed but how do i know?
@Nara I agree that it's not a service pack, but since so much has changed in this last update, it acts more like a service pack, and because of that I believe @JaredBusch has a point, it should show up somewhere.

If I did get a server up and running, would I be able to convert the vm from one type to another and get it off the server?
Yup. Once it is running it is easy.
I have a Dell PE 2850, but not running. I have to look up the CPU compatibility for Hyper-V for servers and it would be a few weeks before I could have room to fire this up in my home office, not to mention the noise!

Previous Disk2VHD versions had "Fix up HAL for Virtual PC". Only vaguely heard it "cleans up stuff" by Aaron Margosis. Had not not used the tool without it. Weird the current versions don't have the checkbox.
Curious when the VHD was made, and how this turns out with VBox.
VHD was made about 6 months ago and the hard drive croaked a few months ago.

RE: Disk2vhd and VirtualBox woes
Putting pieces that I have read together and have come up with this:
Mount vhd and mark partition active (which it currently is not active), clicking yes for the pop up "Ensure that the partition you are about to make active includes valid system files. Otherwise the disk will not start. do you want to continue. I presume this will not effect the running of my W8.1.1 system.
Unmount vhd and attempt to start in VirtualBox.
Does this sound plausible?

RE: Disk2vhd and VirtualBox woes
I guess I can spin up a W7 PC and see if I can run the vhd in Virtual PC
