Do you have a link for that?

RE: Lync Alternative
Or XMPP I suppose.
We're looking for a quicker launch not a large project (only wish to get 20 people initially going)

Lync Alternative
Hey guys.
Anyone have any good suggestions to a lync alternative.
We are moving away from O365 and people are not willing to move away from the chatting functionality.
We dont want to lose the ability for people to show away when they lock their screens as well as single sign on is a must.
Thanks

RE: Linux Domain Controller
So following this write up:
http://www.alexwyn.com/computer-tips/centos-samba4-active-directory-domain-controllerI get to step 8 and do the seft test
cd samba-master
.\configure --enable-debug --enable-selftestand get met with the following error
/root/samba-master/source4/lib/tls/wscript:37: error: Building the AD DC requires GnuTLS (eg libgnutls-dev, gnutls-devel) for ldaps:// support and for the BackipKey protocol.
Would anyone be able to spread some light on that for me,
Found and tried a few things but its not clearing up the message for me.
As well when I do the next step
make
I get WAF_MAKE=1 python ./buildtools/bin/waf build
Project not configured (run "waf configure' first)again tried a few things and still hitting walls.
Any light that could be shed would be awesome.
Thanks guys.

RE: Linux Domain Controller
Oh thats pretty sweet actually, that actually makes me not want to de-commission my windows based DC if they will actually talk to each other.
I'll look into Pertino right now.

Linux Domain Controller
Hey all.
So I purchased a server at CloudatCost yesterday and I want to migrate my home DC (windows based) to a linux based DC (probably Debian) server. This will be my first time setting up a linux DC, is there anything important I need to know other than any random webpage (like this one) http://www.golinuxhub.com/2013/06/samba-41-as-active-directory.html
Can I set it up as the PDC while my windows is still online, de-comissioning the windows one after the fact?
I have multiple things on this domain so I dont want to simply undo everything and start new.
Any advice and tips is greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.

RE: Home Lab Start-up.....
When I started homelabbing I went big,
Dell 1950, 2950, 2950, and a MD1000Running dozens of VM's huge learning experience crammed tons into a short amount of time.
Later realized it was giant overkill, built a whitebox server its a quad core 3.6GHz 16GB of ram in a 15 bay chassis.
More than I need, I just actually delete VM's instead of running 40 at once lol.

RE: Calling All Tech People - CloudatCost is Hiring Technical Support Staff.
Alot of people are mentioned the part time work from home aspect of this.
Is this actually an option? Not looking to replace my full time job we're currently debating my wife not going back to work after the second child so 3-4 hours extra a night could definitely help in that decision making.

RE: Why does CloudatCost charge in US currency for a Candian Company?
Makes sense but ya definitely a shame.
I'm debating jumping in feet first and picking up 2 or 3 servers but I know if I wait until the dollar bounces back that I can turn the server about 20% (on top of coupons) cheaper for myself.
Not looking for business here just me and I need to stretch out my geek budget lol.

RE: Let's Talk about Data (Personal)
In disks I have about 20TB of storage, I would say largest file is in the 20GB range.
Storing it in a whitebox server build.

RE: Massive Storage Need for Video Project
Hey Scott.
Two suggestions, NetBalancer will have you throttle if the programs themselves dont.As well unlike Blackblaze Crashplan allows you to disconnect the media for years at a time and it wont delete your backup.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Was actually looking into Linux replacements for everything today. A ) For the licensing issues and B ) for the fact that I can get away with smaller servers.
