As a rule, the primary slot in each channel should be populated. So, 4 sticks per CPU.

Make sure Memory RAS settings are default and not stripe or mirror. That may be part of the problem.

Make sure the sticks are in the primary slot for each channel which is usually a different colour than the secondary and furthest from the CPU.

T410 is old 5500 series chipset which is triple channel, so I don't think you gain anything with 4 per CPU.

Heh .. I didn't clue in to the generation indicator thus my mistake. Apologies ...

We had a client with a fair number of very proficient Photoshop drivers. They needed way more GPU than the then current "best" could give them.

So, we built a bleeding edge system with this card.

Everything seemed to pan out but then the drivers came back and bit us in the arse.

Ultimately, a very expensive failed experiment.

Remember the All-In-Wonder cards? I had one of those a long time that I used as a DVR. Same deal, but multiplied by 2 because of the TV tuner.

Yup. Lots of horror stories around ATI and their dismal driver record.

We just went through a round of pain with AMD/ATI RADEON PRO W5700 series cards flaking out in SolidWorks/3D CAD situations. 😞

As much as things change, they sure remain the same.

Any model recommendations for the intel sticks?

Make sure it has the 64GB storage setup as the smaller 32GB setups across all platforms are running into problems getting updates.

With the shorty Celeron NUC we keep a set of extra long screws that allows us to use the NUC VESA mount over the monitor arm/post mount. We use a 30cm/6" HDMI cable from the NUC to the monitor. WiFi or a cable works for network. If using a bluetooth (which is built-in now) mouse and keyboard the only cables running up there are power for both the NUC and monitor and the network cable.

      One such setup: http://blog.mpecsinc.ca/2014/04/intel-nuc-wall-mount-monitor-and-nuc.html

@Emad-R said in Should I bother to learn Windows Storage Spaces and what about Glances export?:

I know 2 unrelated topics, but wanted your feedback.

      1. hearing good stuff about Windows Servers with Storage lately which is weird, should I bother installing and learning, its making buzz lately on 2016. Or should I stick with my gluster knowledge, I like to learn but i hate wasting time, and is it reliable and what filesystem does it use by default ?

      2. Anyone is using glances system monitoring tool with exporting and where do you export and do you have easy guide cause I am loving it, but there is many options to export too and tie too, so what is the better one with good web dashboard. (but you can run glances -w, okay but I would lose the data if i am not looking at it)

      thanks in advance

1: We've been building clustered Storage Spaces converged (asymmetric) clusters with two or more compute nodes and one or more shared SAS JBODs since 2012 pre-release bits and have had great success with them.

Our smallest asymmetric cluster client is a 15-18 seat accounting firm while our largest that uses a disaggregate Scale-Out File Server (SOFS) cluster that runs on Storage Spaces and a Hyper-V compute cluster that runs VMs into the thousands for their tenants/customers.

Lately, we've been deploying Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) in both Hyper-Converged (HCI) and SOFS only deployments.

Contrary to the naysayers we've done quite well and so have many others including Tier 1.

      2: Not here.

Small victories in life are often the sweetest! As of about 10 AM today, I paid off my car loan. The taste of freedom being being debt-free is so nice. 😄

Both our vehicles were paid off this summer. We've been eyeing the idea of purchasing a 3500 series diesel for a 5th wheel trailer.

      But I ain't gonna pay $85K+ for a truck.

The used vehicle market up here is nuts right now. Any truck for sale doesn't get below 70% of retail unless it's a wreck.

And yes, it is a good feeling.

We're putting the extra cash flow into fun things with the fam.

My next goal is building some general savings. I'm putting a good bit away for retirement, but I need to increase my more liquid savings that's easily accessible in case of hardship.

I'd aim to put enough away to have $3M+ minimum by 2053.

Inflation is driven by the amount of fiat currency printed by a central bank.

It's actually in the banker's best interest, no pun intended, to keep printing that money.

It's why a $35K truck two decades ago is now $65K.

Real estate is somewhat resistant to this, but the catch is that the market bubble always busts bursts. Knowing the signs is key.

My Gram taught me a lot about real estate as she was a speculator's manager in Shanghai (Yeah, China before Mao).

We've done well since our first purchase in the middle 2000s before the bubble burst in '08.

The crazy amount of money being printed over the last year has wiped out any gains we had on our current property though the rush out of the city has helped to keep the price propped up.

      Know the signs. 😉

I just saw an Eaton flyer on their UPS line based on Lithium-Ion batteries.

      First thought: "BOOM" 😛

APC, the company we usually run with, has a line too now.

Has anyone deployed them into production or lab setups yet?

I've not logged in to Disti to check price variances over the standard sealed lead-acid units yet. It seems to me that we should save a few dollars on shipping since the larger units are on a pallet and freaking heavy.

Actually, it was a gas station here in town. Several other folks I know had something similar happen over a few days, so let's just say I won't be going back there, lol.

Someone has a skimmer on the pump you used

Except it was the inside card machine in this case, not the pump.

I just stopped in for a snack, lol.

      Sounds like an inside job.

I... handn't thought about that. It very well could be.

Did you use the magnetic stripe on your card?

In this type of situation I only see the cashier as potentially being guilty if he was able to swipe the card without you seeing.

What at the changes he could attach a skimmer on an in store reader and you not notice? Unless they make them super tiny nowdays...

Krebs on Security had a series of articles on inside jobs IIRC.

There's plenty of inside jobs articles out there.

A micro-camera pointed at the PIN pad with the skimmer in the slot.

Manufacturers are getting better at protecting the slot, but no system is foolproof when someone can open the cover and plant the slider internally.

It's like that IPOD situation I dealt with yesterday.

What about all of the server maintenance able to be done without having any down time? Or didn't they use it for that, strictly redundancy?

In a cluster setting (SOFS) this is a moot point since nodes can be patched and rebooted without any downtime.

We deploy traditional RAID in standalone settings not Storage Spaces.

The imperfect is not capable of building a perfect system.

Our clients are a blend of Open Value Agreement with the Windows Desktop Upgrade/Enterprise license moving to Windows E5 to gain Advanced Threat Protection and security licensing for the desktop.

When renewing the Open Value Agreement the perpetual licenses stay with the client and the renewal is SA Only.

Looking long term, an Open Value Agreement pays for itself in the third renewal so years ten, eleven, and twelve all things being equal.

SA is required or O365 E3 and up (I think) for Office to run in a RDS setup.

If more than one Session Host is going to be set up then it's a best practice to put Broker/Gateway/Web on one VM and the Session Hosts on the other.
