you're right in that what most people think of as "the computer" isn't something most people feel they need anymore.
This is what I find so interesting. What made a generation feel the need to be so savvy, technical, and able to do things like "work from home" and have home offices, and just generally do technical things (which could mean writing a book, going to school, doing science, tracking finances, etc.) And now it seems that so many of those activities are just left by the wayside.
It's not that computing is taking a step backwards, computing is a means not an end. But it seems that everything that people do is taking a step backward.
No it is not. People are doing those things on their phones and tablets. For most people that is plenty.
This is where I don't think this is true. We used to maintain spreadsheets, for example, for all kinds of data. Are people doing this (or obviously, some suitable replacement) on their phones? I don't see this happening. Maybe people are using tons of apps that I am not aware of, but what I understand of normal usage is that it is far, far less technical than it was twenty years ago.
Heck I have the Phone, the tablet, the laptop a computer literally in every room and I still do stuff on my phone more often than not.

Plumber sent me outside to turn on the water for the house. Then there was a lot of screaming. Everyone in the house is very wet now. Water off, more plumbing underway.
Oh my. Might have been cheaper to fly Art down there and it would be done by now ha ha ha

Getting tested for sleep apnea this week. First an at home test and then a sleep study. My doctor seems to think I may have it due to my energy levels after blood tests, etc came back good.
Good luck. I ended up with a CPAP, best thing ever.
I can only upvote this once damit! Also...a CPAP device could save your life! Sleep apnea is a strong contributor to heart arrhythmias (I know this one personally).
Or to just suffocation. That's the bigger issue with me. No CPAP, and I just stop breathing completely.
What if you just know that you have sleep apnea, can you just buy a cpap? Are there universal Cpaps? Is there any danger?
Not in the US. They are classified as a "medicine" in order to funnel more money to the "system". You are forced to pay doctors for no reason, forced to pay extremely high CPAP fees for no reason. This is literally a time where a ticket to another country can be paid for by the reduction in costs in acquiring the "medicine" you need. The flights can be so cheap, that the cost savings on the CPAP will pay for your vacation.
This is often the case.

So I am a Social Media person ( I get paid good money by small businesses to help them be poplular on it). Facebook is still the center of it all (not saying it is great I wish people would use forums more so much better). But the fact is FB is where they hang out.
Well, not where business people hang out. It's where hobbiests hang out. There is a lot of money in that, but it isn't the same thing.
If they are making an actual living (paying all their bills etc) no matter how crazy the "hobby" as you call it is.... it's a business. And yes business people hang out on facbeook. I have 2 new clients that while their business are weird and you think how they heck do they make money doing this. They make good money (more than some of us do). And again they do hang out on facebook and that is where thier client base is and hence where mine is.

So I am a Social Media person ( I get paid good money by small businesses to help them be poplular on it). Facebook is still the center of it all (not saying it is great I wish people would use forums more so much better). But the fact is FB is where they hang out. I have built a whole successfull business around it and communicating on FB groups. If you treat each group like a mini forum with bad search functionality you can really do well. Skills I learned posting on here, reddit and other forums have helped me dominate over there. Small businesses really do use it a ton and are growing over there (for now).
Heck one post on a group today got me 15 potential client calls.Vero sucks. Twitter is worthless outside of the tech world. Instagram is great depending on your client base (IT world clients waste of time, Female clients or small business owners totally worth it). Linkedin is best for business to business.
It really depends on how you use it all. IT people (all of you) tend to use things very differently then the rest of the world ;). Hence why I have been good at bridging the gap between the rest of the world and the IT world.

VOC free paint. No venting needed. Can't actually smell it at all.

We tested out NextCloud Talk. It really is "corporate Facetime". Pretty goofy, but useful, too.
my peronsla NC instance is on 13. I need to test this stuff out to replace hangouts for my D&D game.
@JaredBusch Take a look at Discord. It looks like there is at least one dice/initiative tracker bot for it: https://bots.discord.pw/bots/261302296103747584.
No. Roll20 is a great tool. Just their WebRTC doesn't work well.
Also I have not felt like discord worked well the couple times I used it for something.
I've used Hangouts since before Roll20 existed for the audio/video. Before hangouts, I used my own Teamspeak server for audio and used a webcame to upload photos ever 60 seconds, with a game tbale called WebRPG and then OpenRPG.
Hangouts have tanked and other people have decent video chat products. I jsut need to take time to make one work.
If you want to keep using Roll20 why not just use Skype? The only reason we switched away from it was because we consolidated our tools into just using Discord.
Last I knew, Skype does not let me record the sessions.
You can record but that requires a 3rd party tool to do so. Skype sucks.

Fixing a client's Mac. It's either the 10K in items in her trash bin that are slowing it down. Or the desktop filled with free apps she doesn't use that she keeps downloading. Sigh.....

Implementing Freedcamp for my TMQ team today (migrating out of Asana to Freedcamp).
Never heard of Freedcamp before. Intrigued, as I am still searching for a good solution for simple, basic task/project management.
My current face looks something like Skeptical Hippo's face...
I have been using it for one of my customers for a few months. I have been pretty happy with it and the cost is decent as well. It integrates with Slack and google drive very nicely and has some other add-ons that look pretty nice https://freedcamp.com/marketplace
