I have done a 60 camera system at a huge hog farm with Ubiquiti. It is always the IOPS. I just broke mine up between 3 servers. Not the prettiest thing to do but that is what I had to do. Ran each with four 2TB drives in a RAID 10

Does the client have to log in to 3 different servers to switch between the cameras?

@dustinb3403 said in unifi controller block device - unblock grabs same IP:

Why not statically assign it an IP that is outside of the scope...

In the case of the copier, I would have to visit every desktop to change the IP in the port of the local printer the copier guy set up. I'm lazy.

I suppose if those make sense for the business that can make sense. My management wouldn't have up upgrade for the sake of a new size. Average monitors we have deployed are still 20 or less. Maybe half have a widescreen.

yes, it probably makes a difference who is using it. For some types of work it really makes a difference. People doing CAD would love to have something with the resolution of paper.

@ccwtech said in Ubiquity Unifi AP:

Ok, cool. Thanks for the input. Sounds like Unifi is the way to go and I do already have a Vultr server.

If there is a chance you will be rolling out more APs, I would set up a unifi controller on Vultr. It makes rolling every AP after that faster and when it comes time to do firmware updates, all of your sites are right in front of you and you don't have to log in to computers in a bunch of different offices to fire up the controller.

    • real world copier/printer VLAN

I have a network I need to secure with device authentication. (802.1x) I'm thinking that copiers and printers won't have a way to install a cert, etc. Do most people just put the printers in their own VLAN and just do MAC filtering? What ports do you typically have to open up between the VLANs to allow printing to work, and this is the real world part, has anyone had any issues with applications like print monitors that would be installed on the secure VLAN being able to access the printers?

Also has anyone set up an EdgeSwitch to authenticate against a Windows NPS server? I saw a couple guides so I don't think this will be an issue.

    • RE: How MSPs provide their services

In your hypothetical example, my tools allow me to install patches on the hyper v server on Saturday night, and patch and reboot the VMs Monday night. I can also create different groups for the workstations and patch them different nights instead of the way WSUS and group policies handle it.

    • ERP for small manufacturer w/web integration

I have a client that is a small manufacturer. They sell wholesale and retail. They are on QuickBooks and some even more unreliable plugins to do their web orders. Can anyone recommend an ERP system? They only have 5 employees, so small shop, but we all know how back QuickBooks sucks at any size.

@jaredbusch So roll this thing as a SAS and the cash flow is improved from they way software was sold and released the way it was 15 years ago. 🙂

Except development is expensive. Probably a year, at least, for 2 devs.

So, 6 months for one dev? 😉

$5 a month for a commercial email system (o365 / google apps for business) that has great spam filtering. Is there a reason you're on Liquid Web?

    • RE: Need a host recommendation

@jaredbusch I don't know about the others, but I was making light of the fact that he stated how much RAM it needed to have, but not how much storage it needed. In a 1U chassis that can be an issue if you are trying to keep costs down with spinners instead of SSDs...

Ugh - Sharepoint of QB? Forget it (IMO)
Go with a local NAS with remote backup to something like Backblaze or such...

If you want to use QuickBooks in multiuser mode, you need a Windows box to host the company file so that you can run the QuickBooks database manager for each version of QuickBooks company files you're hosting. For that reason, a NAS won't do.

    • RE: incident response plan

Looks like both from their description:

      INCIDENT RESPONSE AND MANAGEMENT
Protect the organization’s information, as well as its reputation, by developing and implementing an incident response infrastructure (e.g.,plans, defined roles, training, communications, management oversight) for quickly discovering an attack and then effectively containing the damage, eradicating the attacker’s presence, and restoring the integrity of the network and systems.

1 out of 4 packets is odd. Did someone try to get fancy and only enable jumbo frames on some interfaces and not all? That would cause that kind of odd behavior.

I'm right there with you. QuickBooks has problems enough of its own without involving two operating systems.

    • RE: Buying new business desktops - what do you like?

My go to now is the HP EliteDesk 800 Micro. You can monitor mount it or tuck it away. The HP EliteDesk 800 small form factor is some times less depending on what smart buys are running.

    • RE: MTU size > 1500

@bigbear yes, the Polycom has a side car and has a 50 BLF limit. It was the issue of going from 48 to 50. Changing the MTU down to 1472 seemed to fix it. Thanks for the commands so I could find out what that limit was.

I have one G3 Dome running and I really like the picture and price point. I'll be adding some more cameras in the future. I'll have to decide if I want to keep running my own NVR or buy one of theirs prebuilt. I just used an old Zotac box I had no other use for to test the camera and software.

I think I left it with the keep alive going and the static IP on both ends.
