OTA, or if you don't get the signal where you live, Playstation VUE. I was a Sling TV customer, and quality and reliability of service sucked. Playstation VUE has 3 plans, from 50 to 80+ channels, $50, $55 and $65 are current pricing. It doesn't have ABC yet, but they signed a deal at the end of last year, so it's coming. It's available on PS3 and PS4, on iOS devices, with tv guide, and on Amazon Fire TV and stick - no tv guide though. They recently added Chromecast to the list too.
It includes cloud DVR, for up to 28 days, I think.
Now the downside, it's officially only available in few selected metro areas, but you can easily work around that. I'm 80 miles from NYC, but I get the service without any issues.

My contract is up for renewal this March, so I'll be getting new iPhone then. Wife will get 6S or 6S plus, I'm hoping Apple releases 6C by then. I hate big screen phones.
I'm surprised how much I disliked big screen phones before I had one and how dependent I am on it now. Coworker had a 4inch iPhone that I got my hands on yesterday and felt like I was in the stone age.
My beef with big screens is that it's too big for my pockets, and too big to use with one hand. Big screens are perfect for ladies carrying the phone in a purse, I'm a pocket guy.

Set up ftp server on that NAS and try to transfer a few big files. Hardly anything comes close to ftp in terms of raw speed.
Still needs those "few big items" though.
Linux distro iso for example.

RE: What's your favorite brand of bacon?
My grandfather used to get bacon straight from the butcher and smoked it. My father-in-law is still smokes his own bacon. No brand of bacon comes anywhere close to these.

Asus makes all the best HP commercial gear. Best hardware I've ever used. This machine really appears to be Windows 10. I've had lots of issues with it on lots of different hardware.
First Windows OS I've found that routinely cannot get the Task Manager to come up.
Not only task manager, I have super delays opening clock or start menu, if these open at all.

RE: Advice on motherboard & processor
I've had horrible experience with Gigabyte mainboards in the past. All kinds of unexplained issued, that would disappear when switching to different brand.
I'm a big fan of Asus too. I have all kind of Asus gear at work, laptops, all-in-one desktops, all custom build PCs have Asus mainboards, I even have one server with Asus board in it. -

Dell is really pissing me off.... their support is trying to weasel out of replacing any component on a desktop machine. I've already spent 3 hours on support with them and now they want me to reinstall windows. (without any media since they didn't include it)
Sometimes you just have to lie to get what you want. Tell them that you reinstalled it and you still have the problems.

RE: What Switches do you use?
I have a few Dell Powerconnect switches, one Netgear Prosafe POE, and 2 Ubiquiti TOUGH switches.
At home I have Ubiquiti TOUGH switch, and Cisco Meraki - I know, it will be a brick in 3 years. -
RE: Leaving Dell
I've had horrible experience with HP support. I recently had 2 all-in-ones with touchscreen issues, first one took over a month and 4 or 5 tech visits, literally gutting the thing and replacing every single part, just to send me a new unit in the end, and shipping sucked as well. Second unit, the same story, multiple tech visits, all guts replaced, machine ended up in worst condition that originally. Again, they gave me new unit, again, shipping sucked. And the techs did really poor job putting these machines together, plastic covers had some latches broken off in the process.
I don't even want to go into their printers support, I'm just going to say that it sucks more.Dell on the other hand always managed to send me really good technicians, that would get the job done the same day. Occasionally, they had to come back to replace additional parts, but always got the job done.
I will also recommend ASUS. We use their all-in-ones and laptops with very few issues. We re-sell ASUS all-in-ones on some of our optical measurement machines, and customers are really happy with these. Great hardware quality, and contrary to some responses above, they do have docks. Support is really just an RMA process, and no on-site repairs, but I usually get my stuff back in less than 2 weeks. Also, all my custom build PCs here have ASUS mainboards.
By the way, NBD is really NBD if replacement parts are in stock, if not, you're sol.

RE: Looking for a location to run ownCloud (or similar) with 4TB of storage
What about simple 2 bay NAS? I think there are ownCloud add-on packages for a lot of different NAS vendors.

RE: Anyone Using Apple Family Sharing?
I use it too. I set it up so my parents could buy stuff as they don't have credit cards. I also don't restrict anything.

RE: I am an OS Junkie
Has anybody here actually used BeOS? I remember having it as my major OS at some point. I got the CD from some magazine, and it had some weird booting process, I think it had to be booted from Windows, only the commercial version was using bootloader. But once running, it was really great system for working with music and videos.

Mandrake stands to this day as the worst Linux OS I've ever used. And the only one that I ever paid for support on. And the only one that turned out to actually be a scam (no support people once you paid for support, literally nothing, the whole company was just running a scam.) OS didn't install at all, did nothing.
I had exactly the opposite experience with it. I didn't have any major issues with it, I got it to run without any effort on all kinds of hardware, even dial-up modems worked
I'm sure that it worked some places. My issues with it were that the support option was a literal scam - it did not exist at all, and that it was less usable than any other distro I had used for the five years leading up to it and all since. It was sold as the user friendly one so I got it for my wife who, at the time, was a scientist, to use as a gaming rig (it was the gaming edition) and the whole thing turned out to be useless. But any other distro installed on the same box, no problems.
I think I ran into that edition. I might have actually got a bootleg of it, because I remember playing Tux Racer
I can't say anything about support, because I've never had a need for it, and I wouldn't pay anyway.
I've had a lot of installation issues in the past, with all kinds of systems, and majority were attributed to bad optical media.
But in the end I don't blame you for moving on, I would have done exactly the same. If a system wouldn't install, I'd just grab a different distro. -
RE: I am an OS Junkie
When I was working for local ISP (early 2000's), we actually officially supported Mandrake (or perhaps they changed it to Mandriva already) to work with wifi cards we were installing. I was the person responsible for handling all Linux customers. I remember that wifi was working much better on Mandrake with ndiswrapper than natively on Windows. We also didn't support Windows 2000 and below.
