    • RE: Can Windows 7 Still Upgrade to Windows 10

@DustinB3403 : So, hold on.. you're saying that Microsoft, who makes the product, and says you're wrong on these pages :
      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-7-end-of-life-support-information
      AND
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4026456/windows-how-to-get-windows-10
      AND
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/12435/windows-10-upgrade-faq

      Is, in fact, incorrect?

@Dashrender : The actual license audits requested by Microsoft are performed by the larger accounting firms. I know of a local company that was audited by KPMG at the behest of Microsoft to perform an LLC audit. Microsoft provided all of the license information (i.e. activation dates, rearms, etc.) to them for the purpose of this investigation.

just because you can does not make it legal.

THANK YOU! I said the same above but was quickly dismissed.
From a Microsoft Licensing standpoint (and of this I am 100% certain), there is no free and compliant method to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 at this time.
If a computer came with a Windows 10 entitlement and downgrade rights to Windows 7, one can still "upgrade" to Windows 10 without additional cost.

While the licensing server for the upgrades will still take a Windows 7 key, Microsoft does not consider this a valid entitlement / activation when it comes time for an audit (not a fake "SAM" audit, but one done through KPMG, Delloite, etc.).

Just because I left my house's front door open doesn't mean that you're entitle to all the items within. Sure, you could take them, but it doesn't mean you legally own them...

      free

Windows 10 is NOT a free upgrade and hasn't been for quite some time.
While Microsoft still keeps the update/licensing server active (for some unknown reason), they have repeatedly stated that only machines licensed PRIOR to July 29, 2016 are actually legally entitled to this.

Anyone upgrading to Windows 10 "for free" after this date is in direct violation of their TOS.

Is the Windows 10 free upgrade offer still available?
The Windows 10 free upgrade through the Get Windows 10 (GWX) app ended on July 29, 2016.
Do I still qualify for the free upgrade offer if I've already downloaded Windows 10 to a USB drive, but haven't yet upgraded my device?
All upgrades must have completed and reached the "Welcome" screen by 11:59 PM UTC-10 (Hawaii) on July 29, 2016; this is one worldwide point in time.

If this is a terminal server you'll need to create a user based GPO then enable loopback processing so that a user GPO can apply to a computer.

Assuming this setting is not included in the ADMX file from Microsoft, then, as per @Dashrender, I'd use something like Regshot to show the changes to the registry prior/post this change in Word and then push the registry key to HKCU on login.

@scottalanmiller : Yeah, as per the other thread we had. Most of these type of jobs will likely be Mississauga, Etobicoke, Markham, Richmond Hill, and Waterloo.
Downtown Toronto is pretty much Canada head-office territory for the big corporations. Lots of c-level and accounting but not a lot else.

With that said, I still think downtown Toronto is the wrong place for your type of work. 😞

    • RE: Wget - Download a Web Dashboard For Local Viewing?

I didn't realize that PhantomJS is a "dead project" as of 2018 (though still works). It appears that it -- and the Gecko version SlimmerJS -- both became deprecated when Firefox and Chrome started shipping their "headless browsers" which accomplish the same tasks..

While I know you won't be using it for your current project, it may come in handy for yourself or others in the future.

    • RE: Wget - Download a Web Dashboard For Local Viewing?

If the site relies on dynamic data then scraping it likely won't help.
Does the page you need to download have to update or just display static information?

Something like PhantomJS may help as it can extract the DOM or create a screenshot of exactly what is displayed on a site rather than relying on data from websockets etc.

      Toronto

Regarding your move, bear in mind that Toronto is a metropolitan meaning that there really isn't a "City" of Toronto per se but an amalgamation of cities such as Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Vaughan, Weston, etc.

About the only thing really "Toronto" is the downtown area which is a) VERY expensive to live in b) one of the major hearts of industry in Canada but not necessarily a place in which a developer will work.

You're more likely to find your sort of work in Waterloo (design / engineering / programming center of Canada), Mississauga, or Etobicoke.

If you need any suggestions on places to live, commute times, public transit, places to avoid, etc. let me know and I'll do my best to assist.

      Cheers,
      M
