Just to update (once you have forgotten this one), I found out what the problem was... in the rush to get our new website online, the dev had trouble with the hosting we had purchased so just put it on his own server instead... and remembered to tell me three days ago. All working now and happy

RE: Weekend Plans
We have a double banger of long weekends - Good Friday 18th, Easter Monday 21st, ANZAC Day 25th. We are heading to sunny QLD on Thurs night and returning Tuesday morning, then we have NZ friends coming over to stay for the next weekend.
Then, we basically have one holiday between now and November.

RE: Making Changes This Weekend...
@Hubtech Funny, I thought you had done that intentionally for some kind of inside joke...

If I click on Favourites on my profile (and I have no favourited posts, I am just clicking around) there is an error comes up.

RE: The Interview No-Show?
If it seems out of character, who knows what kind of emergency there may have been.
I think the key is he did kind of attempt to get in touch, even if he didn't leave a message. -
RE: Windows 8 Gremlins
@scottalanmiller No, just the same user account control blocking I mean.

RE: Windows 8 Gremlins
@alexntg It wouldn't let us wipe it! I think that was the point where they decided just to replace it.
I was only wondering whether it was something with Windows 8 that would have been fine with 8.1,Just weird really... I was at the point of throwing the stupid thing out the window.

RE: Windows 8 Gremlins
@scottalanmiller The laptop is an ASUS, but we buy it through a smaller vendor who also manages the support for them and some proprietary software.
However they come with Office pre-installed (but not activated) so maybe it would be the small vendor who does the OS installation? -
Windows 8 Gremlins
Short version: we got a Windows 8 laptop that did really weird things, the vendor has decided to swap it as a DOA but I'm curious to see if anyone has seen such things happen before.
Long version: we got a Windows 8 laptop for a new guy. I did the initial setup and then our service provider connected it to our domain, installed software and printers (Sharp & HP) etc. This is our first Windows 8 PC so I can't compare results to anything else. Basically everything appeared to work fine (apart from the logmein software was really jumpy and unreliable), except for the weird fact that the installed printers didn't show in Devices & Printers (which didn't allow me to adjust settings, show 4 trays etc). However in printing from a file, the printers appeared and even printed perfectly. When our technician tried to get into the Computer Settings it would start to load and then flash back onto the desktop without opening it properly.
The vendor tech worked on it, couldn't get anywhere regarding administrator permissions despite the fact this user had been set up as a local admin. So I logged into the local PC (non-domain account), which was the only 'user' on the computer. Same permissions warnings. I removed it from the domain and restarted. Logged into the same (only) user account, and tried to turn the firewall off. The PC wanted me to produce an admin account smart card (which I don't have, and as this user was the only user, they were the admin.. right?) Pretty much any setting on there it wanted this admin smart card, and as the vendor tech couldn't find a way around it, couldn't reproduce on one his end, in short had no idea what to do (and the PC would now not let us rejoin to the domain either), he said they'd swap as a DOA. There was definitely no other accounts created on the computer and no options to log in as another account when switching back on. We couldn't reset it to defaults because we needed admin access for this also.
Thoughts?

RE: Who speaks other languages?
@Dashrender That's neat! I can do a certain amount (interpret at our church for the deaf members)
-
RE: Who speaks other languages?
I should add, obvs Joyfano etc speak English beside their native language.
I just find it fascinating. -
Who speaks other languages?
Just thinking about different interests that unite us, and wondered if others on here speak multiple languages at all?
It's a field I've always enjoyed, but never gotten very far in. When I was in primary (elementary for the US), I studied Italian, then German in high school, then Spanish since in view of BA.
Then someone introduced me to DuoLingo, but I didn't like their Spanish (I have been studying Latin American Spanish and even that is different from rioplatense), so I have started studying German on there just because it's fun.
Anyone else? -
RE: Random Thread - Anything Goes
@scottalanmiller I had a friend who was myopic, about -10 or something. She could wear contacts, but there was no way they could do anything for her in the way of laser. First thing every morning she would run blindly to the bathroom to 'put her eyes in' Mine were not that bad, the worse one was about -3.5 or something.
-
RE: Random Thread - Anything Goes
@scottalanmiller Yes ok. Mine have had a few issues (went from wearing contacts full time to being told I could never wear them again due to the blood vessels crawling over my eyes), but not that bad. Nosy, but what's the prescription?
-
RE: Random Thread - Anything Goes
@scottalanmiller It's not that bad. Honest.
If you asked straight afterwards I would have told you it was perfectly horrid... but it is just a few days of recovery and then you are right for years. No more steaming glasses when I take something out of the oven. No more being blind out in the rain... And I had the slower recovery version. The place I had it done prepared me very well, told me exactly what to expect and on day three to just sleep... which was what I did. (Got up, put my drops in, took some Panadeine Forte and got back in). -
RE: Five digits....
@Joyfano Haha, it is always nice to see your light on too

RE: Random Thread - Anything Goes
@Bill-Kindle Grats! I had PRK a few months back (just had a checkup yesterday actually).
They couldn't do LASIK on mine because of the astigmatism.
