RE: What did you have for lunch or dinner today?
@Dashrender Just guessing really lol. Loaf of bread is like $2, cheap lunch meat is around $6-$8.
Three sandwiches, that's less than a quarter of a loaf of bread and maybe an eighth of the lunch meat...so...MMmmmmmmm PB&J though

RE: What did you have for lunch or dinner today?
In 2 minutes, fried chicken from Walmart.
I usually buy an 8 piece and split it over three lunch days.
It costs $6.
Pretty damn good deal imo.
Now of course, you could tell me the price of three sandwiches, that'd likely be half the price, but regardless.
Friiiiiied chicken mmmmmmm -

Wouldn't the latest Ubuntu/whatever Linux be more actively worked on and the LTS version is just getting the old updates, like "last years updates".
Exactly, if it wasn't the LTS would be "current."
Aside from security updates of course, those get applied likely around the same time more up-to-date Linux versions.
So kernel updates are slowed and all major features...Yeah...just like Windows. And windows 10 still has an enterprise LTSB. I'm 75% sure we use it in our org. How would I check that? Hmmmmmm
Edit: LTSB -

Canonical always supports updating your LTS to a supported version, and that's how they get away with calling it "supported." It's supported... to get to a supported version. But if anything requires LTS that thing can't be called supported because Canonical's support requires that that thing be out of support.
(I also did this during my horrific journey when I had a second attempt. I manually upgraded to 19.04 from the LTS version. SO MANY STEPS! But it was pretty easy...since all the steps are plainly laid out on the particular website I was on.)

I mean that's why the LTS, they get slower update cycles, just like windows.
So in terms of compatibility, maybe third party programs would run better on more recent versions then? -

@notverypunny Omg I love that double stacker king they have. SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For some reason, the fast food here in Pierre taste so much better than back in Bakersfield.

RE: Demo VoIP phone DSS Key programming - What do YOU do?
@JasGot said in Demo VoIP phone DSS Key programming - What do YOU do?:
I am preparing some phones for demo. These phones will not be part of the existing phone system of the potential customer, but I'd like them to be able to play with them for a couple of days for evaluation.
If there are three phones that are going out to the demo site; what would you program in those phones?
My first thoughts are:
- Me!
- One of the other phones
- the other one of the phones
- the office number of their existing office phone system
- the local pizza place
Other's
Spouse's cell phone?
Co worker's cell phone?
A directory setup with all their co workers or vendors?I also thought I'd let them choose some others after the phones are dropped off, to demonstrate how quick and easy it is to manage their phones.
etc?
Thanks for your thoughts.
I wouldn't bog them down with too many shortcuts for dialing right off the bat, maybe just a few if they are of a dumber intellect.
If you know whom they call most, then certainly add numbers like that, I would avoid personal numbers though, keep it business only.
Really it just depends on the type of business, people and location. If they're down to earth, well all of what you mentioned would be a great idea to put on.
Definitely do a directory setup because you want to demo that feature.
Walk through conference calling, call forwarding, any programming they can do, headsets, call parking, blind and consultative transfers.

RE: My Weekend Linux Misadventure
@JaredBusch Yeaaaaaaaaaah, good point. Seems pretty straightfoward.
One example I have where correct hardware drivers are installed, but the drivers didn't work in the given environment are HP 401 printers. The driver designed for the machine for whatever reason just wouldn't work. User prints, program crashes or freezes for up to five minutes.
We install HP Universal drivers though, issue is resolved.
Was bizarre, but yeah it was still the correctly chosen driver for the device, just junk software I suppose.
You're right, I was wrong. -

This thread brings to mind Linus Torvalds when asked about Nvidia "F*** Nvidia" was his response. He doesn't like Nvidia and what they pull with their proprietary drivers. Most linux users don't, because of these same sort of issues @kamidon.
Yeah I guess Nvidia's a real as$hole when it comes to their drivers huh...

This may have been mentioned, but make sure your laptop doesn't have an Intel GPU and an NVIDIA one. That gives me fits every time.
Nah just nvidia, I double checked during troubleshooting.

What if...Linux was choosing a mobile driver and not the full version?
That's not how anything works on any OS.
Oh operating systems don't install incorrect drivers from time to time?
Heh, I beg to differ.
Now maybe Linux is better about it, but I've had plenty of Windows f-ups of wonky driver installs.
However, it's incredibly unlikely and I realize that. I'll admit I've reached a bit too far there. -
RE: My Weekend Linux Misadventure
Ah though then again, I don't think it matters which option you choose for nvidia drivers, every install seems to be the exact same size and then the application chooses a driver for you based on your driver ID...or something like that.

RE: My Weekend Linux Misadventure
@JaredBusch Ohhhhhhhh ok, interesting.
OK so, here's my laptop: https://www.amazon.com/HP-i7-7700HQ-Processor-Solid-State-17-ap010nr/dp/B075LKSJZ7/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=omen+1070&qid=1565031272&s=gateway&sr=8-2
Apparently the video card in the device is a full 1070, not the dumbed down mobile 1070, supposedly.
What if...Linux was choosing a mobile driver and not the full version?
The version the Omen has is the regular 1070 (Albeit 90% of a desktop 1070 of course), not a...max q 1070.
Maybe I was installing the wrong driver.
Though I did also try third party repositories, PPA specifically, to auto install drivers...This could explain though why the installation failed so many times, I've been downloading the Notebook version of the 1070 driver since...I have a fu*(ing notebook.
Hmmm, though this doesn't explain why the driver didn't become the default when I ticked the third party driver box.

Next time, I'll check into Cinnamon. Even years ago I recall people raving about it.
