Just use local accounts. It's so easy that you can manage the whole environment for less effort than maintaining AD.

Curious.... How are you enforcing password changes at the local PC for users?

      Why does this matter?

Because we're required to enforce it.

But in America, you can be a highly regarded company with zero profits even for decades and make your money by increasing the stock value, while losing money.

      Amazon.
      Founded July 5, 1994
First penny of profit = 4th Quarter 2001 while doing over $1 billion a year in revenue.
29 quarters of losing money...... Think about that!

Why so huge? The idea interested investors.
Why did they invest? The the IDEA was certain to make huge profit for them in the future.

The idea that you would create a business that never makes money and get rich buying and selling that worthless business to higher and higher bidders sounds insane. But all of the US economy is built on that.

Just think of the age of the industrial revolution. America is the "IDEAS" country. So much of our money is based on "Ideas" ie; My company will make huge profits in the future (Amazon), My company's product will be in everyone's pocket in under two years (Apple), My brand will be a household name very soon (Coke-A-Cola, Dell), Our service will become a verb in every language on earth (Google).

It's the future of these ideas that generates interest, investment, and wealth for those who invest. Just think of all the millionaires Coke-A-Cola made for people who have no idea how to blend the drink or manufacture it or even distribute it.

It's not "almost a majority", it's not even half. Saying "last place is almost first place" is in any situation weird and misleading.

I know a girl who is almost pregnant!

Who brought up GPO's? This conversation has been based on Centralized user administration.
      Quit with the what aboutism's.

Ha! GPOs are by their very nature, all about centralized user administration. GPOs would be the very first solution most IT admins would identify.

Could be either. Some places have no central office, that's starting to be a thing. Those that have a central office might not want their files stored there as it creates risk... how do you work when you aren't in the office, even if normally you are? Those that do can do modern non-mapped drives inside of the office (NextCloud, as an example, works that way.)

      Thanks.

Although the concept is NOT foreign to us, we have NO customers that operate with offsite data.
All are 9-5 office only shops with apps that require onsite centralized storage and a ton of scattered printers available to all departments.

don't have a time machine so don't need to worry about shares This is 2022, I don't think I have more than one or two customers still doing shared drives for files.

      Cloud based?
No common files stored centrally in the office?

So how do you set up the shares? Open to everyone?
How do you handle passwords for the local machine and sync them to the passwords required for the server?

I've used the 53, 56, & 60 models many times. Have not used the 79 yet.

I got a lesson in Yealink's part numbering today.

The W79P is a 59 Receiver and a 70 SIP/DECT Base together in one package.

    • Cordless VoIP phone preference?

I have a need for some VoIP cordless phones. Does anyone have any tried and true models they like?

Need it to work with VitalPBX if it matters.
Also want some decent range through office buildings.

Is there any particular advantage or reason to use their print server over just another vendors print server?

What did you end up doing? I need to make a Dymo a networked printer and I have learned the Dymo printer server does not handle multiple subnets. I don't know why, just a common complaint.

I would like to toss any old usb printer server at it and have it work.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the idea of my passwords being stored on someone else's storage; in the cloud.

How do you reconcile this? What specifically makes you think it is safe to do so?

I have been avoiding password managers for years because I simply don't trust other people or organizations with my passwords. But I am finding the sheer number of password I have -- to be getting too cumbersome to manage; so I am considering it again.

@dashrender said in VoIP Contracts - Do you have one?:

Wow - that seems like a potentially risky place to be. You could be out thousands of dollars in hardware fees if they try to walk away after a few months. I don't see how you don't have an attorney involved in the contract creation.

I will. But the attorney will handle the language to protect us. I need to provide the language that say what we will provide, under what terms, and what the termination fees will be.

    • VoIP Contracts - Do you have one?

I am looking for a sample contract for VoIP services.
I have a customer that wants to commit to a number of years rather than month to month.
They also want the cost of the equipment rolled into the monthly fee.

Just looking for some samples and ideas.

I have read all the big players contracts, and haven't found anything that is short and to the point yet.

      Thanks!

Prior to that you would run a script that copies /home and other stuff to external drive

      No external drives. šŸ˜ž

Then buy them for her? What would this cost in local currency?

A lot since someone would have to run to a city to find one.

      Amazon?
