RE: Install XenServer 7 on USB
Should mention this is on a Dell R510 server (I thought it was a R710 but remembered I used that in my ESXi farm)
Going to try it again and play with BIOS settings.
(Did try Hyper-V which did work from USB but couldn't find NIC)

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
No this was after we had moved the cab and started but it was that messy (the patch panel was in place before hand lol) can't find the "before" shot.

RE: What is the Upside to VMware to the SMB?

I think the other issue is convincing others of the benefits of hypervisors like XenServer or Hyper-V. I want to use Hyper-V or Xen for 2 new hosts that will have Citrix XenApp running but convincing management to move from ESXi is a struggle but I think this also comes from our MSP that likes ESXi and pushes that even in the FREE version.
That bit comes down to getting management to recognize their buyer's agents from their seller's agents. Once they realize that their MSP is really a VAR and is trying to make a quick buck selling them something, it should change their perspective quickly.
Not that VMware is always bad and anyone pushing it is trying to make a quick buck; only that an MSP making money by selling VMware isn't a trustworthy decision maker in this scenario.
100% Agree - At the moment we are "reviewing" our ESXi farm that currently has a SAN, and we have outgrown it. Every time we talk the instant reaction is NEW SAN with some SSD's for SQL etc etc. I'm thinking no lets look at Hypercoverage or IaaS now
But yeah since I've started here and started to question things the IT manager has been a bit more on my side with thinking

that's actually a known problem.
Reboot and try again - I've read you have to reboot up to two times after doing a sysprep depending on what options you picked in Sysprep.
OK will try that too.
*Edit - But I did have it working after the initial sysprep -

Doesn't the sudo command make it run as root? but i'm also running it as the user I first set-up as I thought Ubuntu doesn't have root you use sudo?
Yes, but only the immediate process. Try running as root instead. Sudo is how you get to root.
sudo -i su
OK that worked
maybe worth mentioning it in first post

RE: The Inverted Pyramid of Doom Challenge
Give us 3-4 months and i'll put you in contact with our MSP as they will be trying to sell us some hardware and SAN with a refresh, even after i've suggested better like Scale
Might be suggesting a 3rd party review of the solution so look out for an E-mail NTG
-
RE: Hardware refresh and Selling the Solution
Thanks for all the input on this peeps.
A few years ago if I was doing this refresh and a rep/sales man/someone said to me for HA you need 3 hosts + SAN I would of just signed the order. But now thanks to Spiceworks and Mangolassi communities I can call BS! and offer a different way of thinking

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Doing the same as most mornings..............trying to remember what the hell I was going to do today (really need to setup a to do/project list but keep forgetting to add it to a "to Do" list
)
Might look at "Sites" on Office 365 or something on there. (If I remember

Just done two missions on Xcom2
How is it compared to XCom?
So far the main missions are just the same controls and view. But the base building is a little different and is taking a bit of getting used to. But it's a game i'll be playing until completed
*Edit - of course new story line and new "aliens" to kill

Issue adding SMB Share on NAS to Xen Orchestra
I can't seem to add a SMB share as a remote on XenOrchestra
XO-Server 5.3.3
XO-Web 5.3.2The NAS I'm attaching is not part of the domain and has a local username and password assigned to the shared folder.
I'm thinking it's the Domain part that's causing the issue but it won't let me leave it blank.
