      And then the Volt didn't even end up being electric. Volt, Spark, they tried really had to make people think that they were electric.

      To be fair, the engine and drivetrain are electric. There's a serialized gas engine that runs to supply electricity to the engine when the batteries run dry. It's more electric than a Prius, which is one of the worst cars on the road.

      Kind of but the engine turns on for basically all driving. Anything over 25 mph or something crazy like that it is on gas all of the time.

      I think that's more about the amp draw. If you're a lead-foot, then it needs more juice to meet demand. If you try to hypermile it, then I bet you'd be able to commute without ever touching your gas tank. Conversely, a prius will always use fuel in every commute. Do you have a Volt? Maybe Turo has one to rent?

      I spent a lot of time researching them and was close to getting one except that I already have a sedan and don't need another, though I did need a truck with 4wd for winter commuting and I did buy that in November. Once my motorcycle is out of the shop (annual maintenance), I'll be back on that for my primary commute.

      Yeah, well, Chevy said the Volt would look like

      And we got

      So I don't think car manufacturers know what's going on, really.

      Good morning coffee, oh how I love thee.

      Man, I wish coffee still worked for me. Even if it didn't I still wish we didn't have shit coffee here.

      Better to have shit coffee than coffee shits.

      j/k good coffee with coffee shits is still good coffee.

      True... but I'll drink good coffee, just not for a pick me up. I need about 50x the amount of caffeine provided by drip coffee (which literally puts me right to sleep).

      A good double espresso goes a long way.

      8oz of drip coffee has 95mg of caffeine, vs 80mg for a double espresso. That kind of microdose of caffeine doesn't do shit for me but make me want to go back to bed. I have no idea how much caffeine is in my 8 day cold brew, but it's more like taking drugs than drinking coffee.

      According to the box of Kroger Morning Boost (Wild Strawberry), which I add to my water in the morning and after noon, there are 120mg of caffeine in the little packets (each). There are 10 packets to a box, which cost about 3.50. Starbucks can suck it!

      Are you working on a single domain or one root domain with multiple subdomains?

      (*&@^$(@ Thing. Apparently, you need spaces in between the commas. This is dumb, though. Some places, this doesn't matter and others, you can't have spaces, and then this requires a space. Stupid thing.

      @Grey You don't even want to know what my network looks like. It's held together by bubblegum

      I just want to get to the root cause of the FSMO error you mentioned at first. I'm doing a dcpromo to remove a DC and getting the 'missing mandatory information' yet I can see that my FSMO/RID/etc. roles are all being handled by the proper server through the ntdsutil, AD sites & services and in the various other AD tools. The only thing left to determine is what is in my scheme or something that's not providing the detail for the dcpromo tool. I know that I can run it with a /force switch, but I'd rather find the root cause so I have an answer instead of a workaround.

      Do you see any DC's listed in the computer dropdown shown below? Might need to manually select a server. It should be able to see itself.

      Yup. Oddly, not all of them. Out of 1 RODC and 5 DCs, only 2 show in the dropdown.

    • RE: ODBC password

      Update: I've found that you can make a file.dsn and store your connection details there, e.g:
      [ODBC]
      DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0
      UID=<username_sql>
      DATABASE=<SQL Database Name>
      APP=Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
      SERVER=<SQL Server Hostname>
      Description=<Anything or nothing>
      PWD=<The critical piece>

      With a .dsn file, you can open the ODBC application and import the settings, similar to an outlook client connecting to the first time where it gathers the info from DNS & autodiscover, except that this gathers from the file. Obviously, a user would have to be admin level to import the file.

      These settings are all stored, with the exception of the password, in HKLM\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI<name> and it's important to note that multiple items are stored which requires one to export the whole tree from ODBC.INI down, not just the name of the ODBC source that you want to configure; the driver information is in a different key than the configured source.

      I am still looking over how to get the password to either be stored, or force it to import in another way without using a stupid bat file, which seems to be the preferred method. I hate, hate, hate using bat files in modern GPO systems.

      I'll update if I find more, though i would appreciate it if anyone else can add to this, especially if you have a solution.

      You could also try exporting the registry key from a known working machine, and copying it out to a .reg file and applying that .reg file via GPO?

      This is for a VDI environment and the registry or ODBC settings have to be populated through GPO. Everything else is working in the GPO to fill in all fields for the system DSN but the password is the only thing NOT populating.

      I think they took that ability out of the GPO a while back. Can you not pre-populate the VDI image with the appropriate ODBC connections and redeploy?

      I tried that. No joy.
