I admit that anything is possible. When you recycle hardware like I am doing - there is that chance that, while it works,.. it doesn't exactly work right.

As for UT being a resource hog - hmm.. I can't answer that.. I don't get into all that. I know that IT was reporting only about 25% CPU / memory useage...

But - the reports is what helped me catch a desktop that appeared to have a root kit on it... or something. And it was simple (the UBNT appears such so far...) to take a turn that IP address off. Now that I have some back ground with the unit,.. one will be on order for the house,.. and to replace this one (it was suppose to be on another site...).

I'm extremely grateful for the assist. And I get to learn more.

ETA: Looking at the dashboard - we are pushing 8MB - no one is here and I can't say that Pandora should be pulling that much right now.

The previous was from a laptop, this is from my desktop that I am at normally. It would seem so.

With some assistance earlier today ( @JaredBusch ), the EdgeMAX lite is up and running. And for the moment it appears that everything is clipping along. A speed test came back with nearly 9MBs RX and 1.3MB TX.

Of course, there is no one here currently, and next to nothing going on. However during the ccourse of the day, I found that a PC appeared to have had a Rootkit on it. As discucssed with Jared, Log files are extremely helpful in this manner. The Untangle Box gave me those reports - Maybe they are there with the UBNT unit,.. I don't know yet. I have some config to do still so that my drivers can use there tablets tomorrow (port doesn't seem to be open). and a PC to rebuild...

Thus far, I'm impressed with the little spit fire..

They are a little trickier than the average router for initial setup. But if you update to the latest firmware, there is a wizard that walks you through everything. I think this is part of their preparation for the new UGS unit that will replace the RouterLite.

That is pretty cheap.. jeez,.. My brother and I have been trying to deal with how to backup our data as well as our dad's for the last year or so. And we have thought about setting up replication between the three houses. We all get off site and even out of state backups - This could be a good option. Though a power hungry one.

Yes - I actually spoke to Andrew and Scott there earlier this week about the drive and system. I've worked with Andrew in the past, and it's nice that they are so responsive.

There is 'plenty of space' on the 146GB drive, but I feel that going with 300GB drives is better, besides, it's only $40 more at $99 a drive.

Hmm,... 'out' is the incorrect word.. I'd rather go OpenSource as opposed to the Big Box software/hardware...

Sonic wall is something I'd stay away from. Ubiquiti has good stuff. Cisco does as well, but IMO cisco is becoming less and less attractive in the market as others come up with better priced/feature units than cisco offers.

The only reason I do not run pfSense is because I want a small simple hardware device, and Ubiquiti fits that for me. Prior to finding the Ubiquiti EdgeRouters, I was using pfSense on old hardware. Prior to that I was using ClearOS.

I have a Ubquiti Lite router for one site,.. just haven't had much luck with decypher it yet.. Of course when you have one crisis after another (Yes, I do know it's the IT world... it's a daily thing) I need some decompression time.

I like Untangle for the same basic reasons it would appear that pfSense is out,.. Open Source and free....

As for size,.. shame the Raspberry Pi isn't 'big enough' to run as a FW with either..

Looks like my predecessor used the vol shadow copy, and 'x-copy' to an external drive. Which I just don't know about...

Backups are a serious issue.. but then so is the whole network. no AD, no central point of management... Different user name schemas ... and I'm still finding stuff..

I'm going for a full network build... as best I can with what I have if I can.

I've talked with Andrew and Scott at xByte and discussed what I am seeing versus what I expect.

While the issue of only one hard drive is reason enough to rebuild the box, maybe I don't have a hardware issue with the drive.

No Events are logged. Dell OM reports no issuses in health other than the psu1 being down (unplugged) and SAS firmware update needed.

The drive seems to be 'norml' other than the drive health indicator isn't on. Not orange or green,.. Completely off...

Could this be causing my posting issue?

Been having some issues with the site

It is something I'm thinking about. I thought about imaging the drive as is, but what will I end up with later?

I have a twin t610 box I can move the app and db to and repurpose this box to AD.

While I'm not seeing log data saying there is a drive failure, no diagnostic software is installed and nothing shows really in the event log.

But I hear it,.. The system is slow..

Sadly - no I haven't. While I admit I moved the box (physically) I never really paid much attention to it. The whole site is in need of a overhaul. 2 t610s a t620 and various file servers.

I'm doing the best I can,.. but I'm getting there.

In my last place of employment I discovered Untangled. Since I had a unmanaged PIX, I figured that it wouldn't hurt to install it... and it didn't hurt at all.

The UT box ran until I left with no real issues, and found or blocked hundreds of issues. I am pretty happy with the UT software.

Fast forward until today - I have several Sonicwall devices in my local and remote locations.. Half of which I don't have a password to. And of course support isn't exactly helpful. Nor is my predecessor..

Trying to isolate a Port scan issue that was getting us blocked I adjusted a rule only to cause a full site issue of not being able to access the internet... Fun!

Then I found a server issue, Uhm.. Okay how much can I do at once.

I had started a UT build on a old PE 310 and once I ported a few updates, swapped it. Back online it was back to the server. (see other thread)

But now I have what it seems extremely slow bandwidth. I did a speed test (office is on Time Warner Cable) and my home network is faster (2.8mbs to 2.5mbs)

I know more about Untanlged than I do the Sonicwalls.. And I really want to replace them all. I do have one Ubiquity Lite Router for another site,.. but I am having some issue with getting it setup.

Are Sonicwalls that 'great'?

Are Speedtest sites really telling a 'decent' story of your ISPs line?

You are spot on that to many people tout the 'One Page' format, there are a number of people that just can't shoe horn their career and skill set into such a limited amount of space and still have it readable.

From the last few years of working with,... uhm,... persons otherwise employed, this is what I have learned and 'taught'.

• Limit frilly stuff; more and more employers are using a service which scans the resume electronically. Added frills makes it impossible (or nearly so) for the document to be searchable.

• Use a Header; If you fax (gasp) your 2 page resume to a perspective employer and they only receive one page, or worse if the fax machine dumps 30 resumes on the floor, how will your two page resume stay together.

• Fancy Paper; Use with limitation. Don't waste your $1.50 a sheet high cotton fiber paper for mailings and cold call drop offs. Save it for the interview. And have a copy for each person in the interview (Panels are the rages these days).

• S(kills); Many positions have a high number of applications - put your skills on page one, front and center. From my partnering with Manpower Employment services, an perspective employer is only going to give a 30-45 sec read and never get to page two, UNLESS something draws them in. Skills can kill - both ways.

• Terms; MCSA, CCNA, CCIT, NSA, FIPS, HIPPA - Yes, all good 'generally' known terms.. however in a former job interview the terms Net+, A+, MCSA, CCNA, MCSE etc were completely lost on them. Know what the terms are (if you have it, you'd better,..).

• One to Two Pages; If you have a two page resume,... it should be a FULL two pages. Either you don't have enough, or you have two much if you have blank space... Adjust your margins. Former co-worker had so much that she used a .25 margin on all sides, filled up two pages, and could have gone on to a third.

• Readability; Format and font should be standardize; 10point font is the absolute smallest you should use.
