Struggling to get starting ... we have been working on a remote site hardware refresh - sadly it hasn't gone as it should have or we would have liked.. so we go for day three on a two day project.

The worst is that all of the equipment comes preconfigured. It's suppose to have all the phone numbers, IPs, Gateways, and such already set so we just swap and they are down for a very short period of time.

Thus far, we have had to re-configure the gateways, PBX, Switches, and Perle units... We still have to swap out the Positions (desktops).

Sigh.. I think we still have to work on the PBX.. but am not sure.

Honest - It's going well. Some down time, some busy time,... I could do without being On Call... but part of the gig...

Working on a DC/DC converter project.. Have several half dead AA and 9v batteries here from kids games and xBox / Wii controllers... so,.. Now I can take 8 AA (x2) or 3 9v batteries and boost to 12v - which I can then use to charge my radio or use any AUTO USB charger to charge something...

I've decided that it's time to down size the number of PCs around here... So ,... Starting prep work on two desktops and a laptop for donation / sale. I'll likely "T n L" (toast and load) with a version of Linux.. whole setups are going. Will then have to spec out a newer desktop with Dual (at least) monitors...

I tell ya... working in some of theses PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) it's insane at the number of monitors or TVs they have up. Up to 6 Monitors per position, and then a half dozen around the office for Cameras, Weather, Alerts, etc... Can't imagine the amount of optical radiation they are exposed to..

Oh - yea,.. this is close...

Wow, dealing with two keyboards and mouse with those monitors can be confusing if your're not use to it.

Yes,.. the site nearest me is 'nice' in that they have only four monitors,.. the keyboard/mouse is on an KVM Auto switcher. Drag it across and it (audibly) switches.. so better. Depends on the site and the hardware integration.

Not so much boxes - but PCs.. Toasting the HP Laptop.. Not sure about waht OS to load... from my point of view,.. Linux. But Wife is saying WIndows... which would be gasp choke cough Vista 32b..

Might just leave it as no-OS.. and let it go.. likely off to Good Will in a few days..

Catching up what's be happening on mangolassi. While waiting for the wife to get out of hydrotherapy.

Also when I get back into work I'm thinking of doing a mini how-to/blog on dual booting a machine with Windows and Linux (Fedora). To log trying to move from a Windows world into open source. Documenting what I use day to day and how to do them in Linux instaed (e.g. Citrix XenApp, Office365)

Good luck. One of the issues I'm running into right now is the VPN and Remote Desktop software. looks like I'll have to figure out / set up WINE. Having a little bit of an issue with the VPN... I just haven't done much about / with it yet. Still have a Windows machine.

But we use RAdmin - which isn't a Linux application. For a lot of my actions, I don't need it... as it's on a Windows box,.. but if I direct connect to the one site, I have to have RAdmin..

A lot of the other things I was using,.. Office, Office 365, Image editing, browsers etc,.. are all cross platform.

Running dban on a desktop - Like an old car in a used car lot... everything must go.. Two of the three going are nuked to DoD level - the old NTG box will be last as it's the one I use the most other than my laptop... Then it'll be added to the list to go...

Sad to see it all go... but onward and all that whatevers.

Moved to a Dual boot laptop over the weekend,... Work requires Windows, and I'm preferring Ubuntu over that. But - I have yet to figure out how to address some of the issues with work under Linux,.. and I have to provide my own laptop. So there you to.

I realize that I need to figure out how to 'script' a simple command (at least as I see it) to keep track of what I do via CLI. Makes it so much easier to fall back to when I wipe/load a system I know what applications I used, and how it installed it.

ETA: history will do this,.. i jest mean dump to text file

Yup - sure is. I serious thought at the time I posted that that I was responding to you,.. but now see it was to @travisdh1 ...

Regardless, looks like a good brew, and therefore nullifies all 'catching up on things'.

just got roused due to echo on the admin lines ... I'm going back to bed... Admin is non-critical and dealt with differently than 911 calls.... call routing at this hour in my mind starts to hurt... but - admin calls don't go through the selective router, they're handled locally so likely have to deal with the telco business office..

      it's to morning for this...

      What kind of PBX?

We don't use a PBX for this - There is generally a PBX in the system - just not for the 911 calls.

      https://symless.com/synergy

Yup,.. still having issues. Mouse is slow, jerky, and sometimes unresponsive when on the Linux box. Great tool,.. but when you have to fight the mouse pointer to get what you need... VNC is likely a better option.
