RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Continuing the quest of creating a document that has information about all the services and such we use, in case our department gets hit by a bus one day, and someone has to take over.

RE: Fresher/ beginner in Linux
@jimmynelson I can empathize. I'm getting my feet wet as well.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@thanksajdotcom I lucked out that the file was named something useful (not like prototype1.x), so it could be identified.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@thanksajdotcom I'm happy I was able to find something, for it greatly helps the user + exec on a call that's happening in an hour; however, I can't help but take a step back and say "damn, do you realize what you're requesting?"

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
User: We need to find a file about [possible subject] created in 2015. We don't know any part of a file name nor where the file could be located.
Me: . . . .
[45 minutes later]Me: Here's what I found.
User: This looks like what I need. Thank you!
Me (internally): So I've just set a precedence that I can find anything using absolute minimal amount of information. /sigh

@travisdh1 If it handled 27 characters, then I'd be set: monkey123monkey123monkey123

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Excerpt from a ticket that was updated overnight: "It's been happening for months." /sigh

RE: Best CA for SSL Certificates
I did look at it once before, but I can't remember why we didn't use it (I think it had to do with needing a wildcard cert). But in the future ...

RE: Best CA for SSL Certificates
Current certs are from DNSimple. Will consider Let's Encrypt in the future.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scottalanmiller I agree. And only one workstation UPS didn't last long enough for the users to save / shutdown (luckily, nothing critical was lost).

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@dafyre Much to my delight and surprise our little UPSes kept stuff up for the duration (about 15 minutes).

RE: Tech Podcast recommendations
@scottalanmiller When I've watched TwiT podcasts, I don't take everything that's said as gospel (like with any news-like entity), but it often does pique my interest to learn more about [insert topic here.]
As for Steve Gibson, he's been called out before when he gets something wrong, and he'll own up to it--which is refreshing.

RE: Tech Podcast recommendations
The other shows are (as has been mentioned) more for news / entertainment value rather than technical learning. That being said, I have researched a few things in the past because of moments of "I heard about this on X show, let me learn more."

RE: Tech Podcast recommendations
@scottalanmiller I haven't watched it in several months (tend to do in spurts. Off the top of my head, I can't recall a topic where I've said "Steve! You're a genius!." However, I haven't watched a podcast where afterward I said to myself "Steve, you're a fool!"

RE: Tech Podcast recommendations
@travisdh1 Ha! I agree on the not using the latest OS issue. For most other things, he seems to have some wisdom.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@scottalanmiller Not atypical. Rarely do I call Comcast, but hold times are always atrocious. Irony = I've never had a problem with the residential side of things.
