Working on getting my speech processors repaired and/or replaced. Both primary and backup are dead in the water. Fortunately, I have a third, so I'm not stone deaf for the next 4 to 6 weeks.

This - this right here annoys the absolute crap out of me
"Hey guys lets make sure when we are making user accounts that we are following the documentation. I've noticed small details falling through the cracks in new accounts. Every step is covered in document."
Ya know. If we used a SCRIPT this wouldn't be an issue. But since no one will listen... ..|..
Why not just write said script, and the next time there's a complain present it as a solution.
That's what I do. And then if they tell me not to share it, I just keep using it for myself.

Today's customer conversation...
Customer: "Hi, you guys have been great but now that you aren't local we don't feel comfortable [fyi, we have local people still just I am not local] so we want to use a local IT provider. We'd like to stop paying for your service."
Me: "We understand, and understood months ago when the new IT firm came in and seized control without talking to us. I talked to your COO and worked out the end of service for that day and you've not been billed since then... months ago."
Customer: "Oh, well I get a bill I'd like to cancel whatever that is."
Me: "That's your phone service that you always had separate from any IT support. You went through several phone services while with us as IT because you didn't want to use us but none could get your phones to work so you finally gave in and paid half as much with us and your phones have been with us for years now."
Customer: "I don't understand what phone service is. What does that mean. Just cancel service."
Me: "...."
How do you deal with a customer who has had RingCentral, SpectrumVOIP, Charter phones and after decades of owning multiple major medical practices and work for the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and now doesn't even know what a "phone company" does? She's the owner and CIO and doesn't know that phones need service... even though she and she alone has installed and purchased every phone vendor ever for the company!!
At that point, do as asked. Draw up a legal contract for cancelling the phone service and then disconnect it. At least you won't get any more calls from her after that, LOL!
I was sitting here thinking "The customer is always right.".
Me to Customer: "The customer is always right. Your services will be cancelled by Close of business today. Pleaseure doing business with you! <click>."

@dafyre today's session is actually testing the recovery (sandbox first of course). I'll rest easier knowing that it is working. And then Thanksgiving prep. Hopefully the store still has some collard greens.
We got it easy this year. Just gotta bring the Mac & Cheese and some dinner rolls, lol.

We are doing a big Thanksgiving down the road here in Nicaragua. An American expat and his GF are hosting a huge party. At least fifteen of us going. Going to be huge. Even getting a turkey.
Which is odd that everyone thinks that getting a turkey is going to be hard. When they are literally raised right in the village.

Gun? that's to much work!
Guns work, I bagged my first turkey this year.. scared the hell out of everyone in the frozen food section ..

It's only a lot of work if you're a bad shot. My family bagged a wild turkey a few years back. Best bird we ever ate.
Edit: I didn't shoot it. I am not a good shot.
Well wild turkey is different - I was thinking raised turkeys, catch it, break it's neck.. etc..
Never done turkeys, but chickens are hella messy once the head is chopped off. Been years since I was around that.
oh yeah... but gun no gun.. it's messy either way..
Eating them is the fun part. Catching them can definitely be work. Especially if they notice their friends go inside and not come back out, lol.

@gjacobse @dafyre you guys can actually do the writing part. I'm trying to learn, but it feels like when I tried to learn to sight read music.
LOL - Reading sheet music... Oh I remember trying - and failing. And most of my scripts a unskilled monkey could write.. very crude and mostly simple.
I finally graduated from unskilled monkey to monkey with writing like a doctor's handwriting.
I can still sight read music and even compose my own pieces when the mood strikes... it's just... the mood usually doesn't last long enough to finish any thing more than a few bars.
I haven't really had a chance to muck around with much of my stuff in the last while, but I finally got around to checking on my Mesh Central install...
It was Ubutnu 19, and couldn't update... ugh. So I just rebuilt it from a Ubuntu 19 install, copied my meshcentral install over to the new system and it actually ran after I installed node and npm. I figured I was going to have to redo the whole config again. Nope!
New server, move folder, install Node & NPM and off to the races. It even updated to the latest dev branch without a hiccup. Yay, me! lol. Total time in, ~30 minutes from install to done.

Holy Busy morning.
It's just me in the office today and I'm just catching up with emails - I dont think there is enough coffee to help me today.
Today is one of those days for me too.

The lack of a light on the bottom drive # 8 is interesting.
That looks like a serious hardware failure. BTDT
I sure hope the backups were tested to bare metal/hypervisor so known good.
That looks like a server that went crazy right after I started here. RAID5 had a drive fail. Had one hot spare, so they thought they were good... until 6 more drives failed. It was funny to me.
Also looks like a server that was sent to our office BY A CUSTOMER. I assume they paid extra for the headache they gave me. I had to try everything to recover the data, which I already knew was gone. Should have sent them this meme.
Well... Now you have it for the next go round poor idiot... sucker... customer that has this problem.

My wife and I were out to lunch one day and within seconds of one another, we got phone calls that appeared to be from her number.
It was hillarious. Of course, we didn't answer.

@scotth I started off on this crazy journey as an electronics tech, spent everyday using a cro of some description.
i can remember one time, i really wanted to work in the r&d area of this company where I worked, they were looking for a junior tech/engineer & I really wanted the position.
I got the spot and I still remember day 1. They sat a huge Techtronix cro on my bench, this thing had more buttons and knobs that anything. I reckon it took me 10 minutes to find the on/off switch.
It is so 'Star Trek'. I can imagine how intimidating it would have been. The more switches and buttons, the better.
I was extremely fortunate in my young life to be hired as a corporate flight attendant. I was cabin crew on an executive airliner -- BAC 1-11 401AK.
I was permitted to help with maintenance, preflight, attend training. The boys would teach me how the systems worked on the airplane. And yes, I have sat in the right seat during flight.
I quit college and landed this job through sheer luck. Although college would have benefitted me orders of magnitude more than this job.
I can honestly say that I don't regret the opportunity. I was 19 and would sit in the jump seat during any/all operations of flight. I lost that job when I was 27. An entirely other lifetime ago. Dare I say that I'm 62 now?
Major geek moments!
Awesome stories! But... Maybe I should get off your lawn now?
